Too Many Cooks

I got this from Wil. And yup, it's about right.

You Are a Lazy Cook

Technically, you're a cook... in that you do cook the occasional frozen burrito in the microwave.
Get a little adventurous. Sprinkle some fresh cheese on that frozen pizza next time!

My Feet

They're knee socks! Aren't they cool? The shoes are Clarks.

Yeah, it's been a long week and I got nothing today. Well, yesterday, actually, since it's now technically Saturday, but until I go to bed, it's still Friday for me.

Had Italian food for lunch (boss treated, to show his appreciation!) at a nice restaurant. Had a yummy veal cutlet and for dessert, a yummylicious chocolate lava cake with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.

Words to Live By

Quote of the Day: "Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual."
- Terry Pratchett

Which brings to mind something I heard years ago: "Never eat anything bigger than your head." I didn't recall the attribution, so I Googled it and got a lot of different ones. So, I figure it's fair game, so to speak.

Here's a bit of wisdom I came up with years ago: "It's often best to leave sleeping library patrons alone, because awake, they're often more annoying than their snoring is."

Anyone have any personal wisdom to share? Leave 'em in the comments so we all can enjoy them. If I get enough, I'll put 'em in a post.

Lights! Camera! Action Figures!

AAAMal4

This is my new Mal figure, the first of the two that were done. I wish they'd done more of the characters. There are 2 Jayne Cobb figures, but I would love to have had Wash and Zoe. He's wearing John Crichton's Farscape helmet, just for fun.

I could learn to really love eBay, but I doubt I'd get addicted or overspend. Addiction to Amazon would be more likely. So many books and DVDs, and I wouldn't have to carry them home! True, eBay has books and DVDs, but I prefer to use Amazon for them.

There's a fairly rare, limited edition John Crichton figure up on eBay right now. I'd love to have it but it's already at $52, with 2 days to go. Much as I want it, I'm not nuts.

I have found and won one of the 2 Little Golden Books from my childhood that I've been looking for (I have a collection of the ones I have fond memories of, some the originals, some found in antique stores, some newer reissues), and one I'll be bidding on, so if I get that, I'll have that collection complete, except for the one I can't remember much about.

I did get a tripod on eBay to use to take photos of what I plan to sell. I'm going to sell most of my postcard collection and do some selling for my father of first day covers (he's a longtime stamps and autographs collector). The tripod is currently making its way across the country. And I might sell some of my craftwork that way. For now, it's just another online toy to play with.

When the Idea Well is Dry

...Do a Meme!

Thanks, Cat, for providing tonight's questionnaire. The questions are an eclectic bunch and seem, as usual in such things, to skew toward homeowners.

Do you have:
(X) your own cell phone
(X) a television in your bedroom
( ) an MP3 player
( ) a photo printer
( ) own phone line (We have 2 lines, under both our names and we each -- hubby and I -- have our own cell phones.)
(X) TiVo or a generic digital video recorder (We have a DVD video recorder/player.)
(X high-speed internet access (i.e., not dial-up) (A cable modem)
( ) a surround sound system in bedroom (The surround sound is in the living room.)
( ) DVD player in bedroom (Just VHS machines there.)
( X ) at least a hundred DVDs (Maybe, I haven't counted. Does that include sets or all the individual ones in a TV series season set?)
(X) a childfree bathroom (Since we don't have children, both are child-free.)
(X) your own in-house office (It's also called "the den.")
( ) a pool (The apartment building has one, not sure if that counts.)
( ) a guest house (Yeah, it's called an elevator. Sorry, couldn't resist.)
( X) a game room (Every room in this apartment is a game room. heh)
(X) a queen-size bed or larger
( ) a stocked bar
(X) a working dishwasher
( ) an icemaker
( ) a working washer and dryer (They're in the building's basement laundry room. I doubt they count.)
(X) more than 20 pairs of shoes
( ) at least ten things from a designer store
( X) expensive sunglasses (My prescription alone costs a couple of hundred dollars, but yeah, the frames are Italian designer.)
(X) framed original art (not lithographs or prints) (Fan art, all over my living room.)
( ) Egyptian cotton sheets or towels
( ) a multi-speed bike
( X) a gym membership
( ) your own set of golf clubs
( ) a pool table
( ) a tennis court
( X) local access to a lake, large pond, or the sea (The Atlantic is mere subway stops away.)
( ) your own pair of skis
( ) enough camping gear for a weekend trip in an isolated area
( ) a boat
( ) a jet ski
( ) a neighborhood committee membership
( ) a beach house or a vacation house/cabin
(X ) wealthy family members (I think some of my relatives could be considered well-to-do.)
( ) two or more family cars
( ) a walk-in closet or pantry
( ) a yard
( ) a hammock
( ) a personal trainer
(X) good credit
(X) expensive jewelry (A few pieces.)
( ) a designer bag that required being on a waiting list to get
( ) at least $100 cash in your possession right now (Not once I bought this week's comics and a couple of magazines.)
( ) more than two credit cards bearing your name (not counting gas cards or debit cards) (Only one is in my name, but my name is on all the others.)
(X) a stock portfolio (Well, it's really mutal funds. Hubby and I are each in one.)
( ) a passport
( ) a horse
( ) a trust fund (either for you or created by you)
( ) private medical insurance (at least in theory) (Med insurance is provided by my job.)
(X) a college degree, and no outstanding student loans (Paid off long time ago, and I have a graduate degree.)

Do you:
( ) shop for non-needed items for yourself (like clothes, jewelry, electronics) at least once a week
( ) do your regular grocery shopping at high-end or specialty stores
( ) pay someone else to clean your house, do dishes, or launder your clothes (not counting dry cleaning)
( ) go on weekend mini-vacations
( ) send dinners back with every flaw
( ) wear perfume or cologne
( X) regularly get your hair styled or nails done in a salon (every 3 months) My hair gets cut every 6-8 weeks and I do my own nails when I'm in the mood or not going to be crafting cuz decoupage paste and varnish is hell on nail polish.)
(X) have a job but don't need the money (I've grown accustomed to eating regularly.) OR
( ) stay at home with little financial sacrifice
( ) pay someone else to cook your meals (Wish I could; ditto the cleaning question above somewhere.)
( ) pay someone else to watch your children or walk your dogs (No need as I have neither children nor pets.)
( ) regularly pay someone else to drive your taxis (huh? I don't have a taxi. Hubby either does the driving, since I don't, or I take the subway.)
( ) expect a gift after you fight with your partner (Why would I? I'm certainly not getting him a gift after a tiff.)

Are you:
( ) an only child
( ) married/partnered to a wealthy person
( ) baffled/surprised when you don't get your way

Have you:
( ) been on a cruis.e
(X) traveled out of the country (to Canada)
(X) met a celebrity (Well, I've met actors, and I know who they are. Some might be considered celebrities: Dick Cavett, Bruce Dern, the Smothers Brothers...)
( ) been to the Caribbean
(X ) been to Hawaii
( X) been to New York (If you call living here most of my life being here -- I lived on Long Island for 6 years, which is in NYS.)
( ) eaten at the Space Needle in Seattle
( ) been to the Mall of America
( ) been on the Eiffel tower in Paris
(X ) been on the Statue of Liberty in New York (Many years ago, and I walked up with my father, uncle, and cousin into the head -- her arm was closed off back then, but we looked out her eyes, I guess it was. My mother, aunt, sister, and other cousin didn't make it that far.)
(X ) moved more than three times because you wanted to (Well, want is such a funny word. I was too young to care the first time, wanted to live with my family the second time since I was still in high school, wanted to be closer to grad school the third time, wanted an easier commute to work the 4th time, and wanted to live with my then-new hubby the 5th time.)
( ) dined with local political figures
(X) been to both the Atlantic coast and the Pacific coast

Did you:
( ) go to another country for your honeymoon
(X) hire a professional photographer for your wedding or party
(X) took riding or swimming lessons as a child (Swimming lessons, in camp, an almost total disaster.)
( ) attend private school
( X) have a Sweet 16 birthday party (A small party in our basement, just a few good friends. I think it might've been a sleepover, but it's hard to remember that far back.)

Sunday Catch-Up

The Mets need to demote Victor Zambrano and find another starting pitcher if they want to win their division this year. Seriously, the man can't control his pitches worth a damn.

I just won my first bid on eBay: the Mal Reynolds action figure with the duster coat. So once it arrives, I'll be able to do Mal photos with 2 different outfits. Cool. Plus, it'll be a backup in case I lose one when I bring him on vacation next month. Yes, photos of Mal in Michigan will be forthcoming.

I'm also looking for mini clothes I can dress him in. I think a Hawaiian shirt would be perfect. Meanwhile, there's a naming poll for Mal's pet over on The Write Stuff because I can put polls there without a hassle. Anyone can vote. The choices are: Flatfish, Reaver, Lucky, and Snuffles. At least, I think you can vote if you're not on LJ, but if it won't work, leave your vote in the comments.

Been working on a craft project. I'll post a photo on flickr once it's done. I also reviewed a couple of books I just finished on Shelly's Book Shelf, and I reviewed some comics over on Shelly's Comic Book Shelf.

Toys for the Chocolate Soul

So, I was on the Archie McPhee website to order the deluxe librarian action figure based on Nancy Pearl (yeah, I'm late with this, but I do have the first one) and was looking around and found this: Pee Guy. Not the sort of toy I'd get, but I figured I'd share the link and let folks decide for themselves. Or perhaps Shell Monkey or Love Rats would be more to your liking.

Week in Review

♦ How come even when I finish off some projects at work and clean my desk of some tasks, I still feel like I've accomplished nothing?

♦ Did a lot of troubleshooting for the computer system upgrade at work, though, so that's something.

♦ My left foot has been bothering me. I fear a podiatrist might be in my future. feh

♦ Julio Franco of the Mets became the oldest player in the major leagues to hit a home run, and at 47, he's still younger than I am.

♦ Rhetorical question of the moment: Why do I keep taking on new projects when I still have so many other started ones to finish?

♦ I'm not much of a basketball fan, anymore, but I'm sure glad the Knicks don't have to play again til the fall. Talk about losing ugly.

♦ Even if I don't respond to your comments, I read and appreciate them. Thanks.

♦ Cyber Chocolate, however, is still a Flippery Fish in the Ecosystem. I need links to this blog, people. You've been put on notice. :)

♦ Much as I like doing cool things on my blogs, I know the thrill's worn off because I've become lazy. No more adding in the URLs for the smileys I've got stashed on my website to use here. Now, I just type the text, like the point above. *sigh* And yet, the more folks stop by and read, the more readers I want. I'm a lazy, greedy blogger. heh

♦ I'm showing off my ability to code diamond bullets.

Meanwhile, something to keep you entertained til my next scintillating post: chocolate condoms!

Night Time's the Right Time

Leave it to me, a night person, to get this result.
You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

Over the Hump

It's been one of those weeks. Still doing a lot of troubleshooting for the computer system upgrade at work. The weather's been nice, though, with magnificent sunsets. Alias is on and I am not watching it.

Pretty good article about dark chocolate in Newsday.

One more day and I can give in to my craving for pizza, bagels, and Milano cookies. I'm not sure why I decided to actually follow the no bread, no grains bit this Passover as I rarely adhere to that strictly, mostly because my digestive system doesn't like me to, but I did this year and it's getting tough now that I'm in the home stretch.

Meanwhile, I finally joined the rest of the online world, or so it seems, and got a PayPal and ebay account. Pray for me. heh

And I can see it's been hours since I started this. I got a bit involved watching Invasion and setting up the 2 aforementioned accounts. And I got a couple of things finished at work, so all in all, a good day.

Today's Post Has Been Cancelled

And in its place is this feeble substitute.

The Mets are proving themselves human tonight. NCIS was wonderful. I'm watching a typically entertaining episode of House. And, as often is the case on that show, an interesting ethical issue was explored. What happens when a doctor knows a personal secret about a patient that could affect the cure and involves another person? Is the doctor obligated to tell the other person? Or should the doctor stick with the medical issues? The case in point involved a patient getting a liver donation by her lover whom she was planning to leave, a fact the doctors were aware of. The medicine on the show might be a bit farfetched, flying off into rarity, but the questions it poses are thought-provoking.

Alias is back for its final episodes tomorrow and I can't muster enough interest to watch.

Work's been hectic. Yeah, right, there's a newsflash. And I still have dozens of projects at home needing my attention.

Name the Pet

Mal Pet

Mal now has a pet. Ain't he cute? But his name (his tag said: "Bad Boy Astor") won't do, so I'm currently entertaining suggestions. Serenity is the name of Mal's car, so that won't do, either. If you have a suggestion, leave a comment to this post. Thanks. :)

Apparently, there's a new way to say "Excuse me." You (gently) shove someone (in this case, it was me) out of your way. The bitch woman in the small grocery was fairly young, maybe in her early 20s, and acted as if I wasn't in her way. Just shoved right past me to the deli counter. And she wasn't even yakking on a cell phone, so really, no excuse (not that cell phones are good excuses) for her unbelievable rudeness. Sheesh.

Don't tell anyone, but the Mets have the best record in baseball right now. It can't last, but it sure is nice.

Got a lot done these last 3 days, but not nearly as much as I wanted. Decoupaged some boxes. Here's one of them. And yes, that's my left hand.

Some Observations

Money might not grow on trees, but in my neighborhood, plastic bags seem to grow there. Seems like every other tree has a plastic bag trapped in its upper branches. People, don't litter. And when you put your trash at the curb, make sure it's secured. Simple. Really.

Why is it that when the forecast is for rain on my day off, so I plan a day of indoor activities, it doesn't rain?

Why is it that when I have plenty of time to go to the gym, I always seem to have hurt my foot or leg? In this case, my left foot hurts, as it tends to do, and I seem to have sprained a calf muscle.

Why do people think they can bully others into doing what they want when most people respond much more favorably to respectful and friendly treatment?

What did people do before cell phones made communication near constant? I'm thinking someone can make a fortune if they could invent a phone that can transmit your thoughts while you're asleep.

The Mets have the best record in baseball right now, but don't tell anyone. We wouldn't want to jinx it.

Mal had a fun day yesterday. The photos are here. I bet his feet don't hurt.

It was gorgeous today, a perfect spring day. There was a bit of a problem with a somewhat irrational patron shouting so loud while in the vestibule that I heard him in my office one floor up and at the other end of the building.

And a woman cut in front of me and stepped on my foot and didn't seem to notice. Thank goodness she was wearing sneakers and not spiked heels.

But otherwise, a nice day. I'm even getting comfortable with the new computer system. And I have the next 3 days off (I'm working on Saturday). The Mets won, too, and are now 5-1 for the season. It don't get much better than this. :)

Where The Chocolate Goeth

Ate the last of the dark chocolate M&Ms last night. I will miss them. I've gotten so used to them being here for me, waiting patiently for me to scoop up a bunch from the container where I was storing them. *sniff* Guess it's back to plain old milk chocolate ones.

Ate the peach ganache I'd gotten at La Maison du Chocolat. They were just as good as that first taste on Saturday.

Added some chocolate links to My Chocolate Page.

Chocolate Treats

There are few things I'd go out in pouring rain for. Work is one. Chocolate is another.

It was pouring when I left this morning to meet my friend C for a noontime snack at La Maison du Chocolat. We each got one of their hot chocolates and tasted both. One was a bit sweeter than the other, but both were dark and rich. The only downside was that the shop doesn't sell tins of either. We had to content ourselves with individual chocolates. My haul is pictured: dark chocolate squares made from Trinidadian chocolate and chocolate balls with peach flavored mousse-like chocolate inside which we'd gotten to sample first. Those were made special today, so I don't know that they normally have them for sale.

The two hours we spent enjoyng our hot chocolates and chatting were well worth getting wet.

Hot Damn!

Man from UNCLE DVDs! on July 25th. I've been waiting for this for so long. Many years ago, they released a few VHS tapes of the series, then stopped. The show was hung up in limbo over the rights, I believe, and I never thought I'd see the day they were released in DVD. I've contented myself to watching them on American Life Channel, annoying commercials for senior products and all. To have the DVDs, with extras including commentary by Robert Vaughn, is simply heaven.
