Happy World Chocolate Day

How quickly a year can fly by! Once again, it's World Chocolate Day! Although some people say the day is in September. I say the more days to celebrate chocolate, the better.

And nothing says chocolate holiday as a list of reasons to eat chocolate. So, here are 11 Reasons to Love Chocolate.

Two Holidays in One

It's International Pancake Day, thanks to iHop where eating pancakes today is a charitable thing to do.

Stormtroopers Love Pancakes

More seriously, it's International Women's Day. That we still need to fight for equality is frustrating, but the fight will continue until there is parity for women, and really, for everyone.

Chinese New Year

It's the Year of the Monkey. I don't know how folks celebrate Chinese New Year, but I hope it involves chocolate.

Pop Pop Pop

It's Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! Bet you thought this day would never get here again, or maybe you thought every day was Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! When I was working, the most fun was to put a sheet of bubble wrap on the hard floor and sit in a wheeled chair and roll over the bubble wrap sheet. Our boss was less than thrilled, but we had loads of fun. But of course, popping the bubbles with one's fingers is also fun.

And if you don't have any bubble wrap handy, there's always Virtual Bubble Wrap. There's even an app on the site, because, of course, there is!

Here's another one! And if you search for "virtual bubble wrap," you can find many more!

Day of Chocolate

So, it's National Chocolate Day here in the US! For me, it's chocolate day everyday, but whatever. This chocolate dress might be the perfect outfit to celebrate the day, but I'd probably eat it before I could get out of my home.

Chocolate Dessert

We celebrated Rosh Hashana (New Year's on the Jewish calendar) at my sister's home, and dessert included two chocolate treats: A chocolate babka and a chocolate mousse cake. Both were wonderfully yummy.

Happy Rosh Hashana, if you celebrate! May the upcoming year be sweet!

Sky Light

There were fireworks over the weekend. Out of 200 plus photos, I ended up with two dozen or so decent ones. Here's one of them.

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day

There are holidays and there are HOLIDAYS! And National Chocolate Ice Cream Day might be the best of them all! I celebrated by making a yummy chocolate malted, using Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream.

Holiday Linkage

I don't follow a lot of folks on Twitter, but apparently, I should follow the public feed to get the most entertainment value out of the site. These people don't have a clue.

These compilations from The Colbert Report are marvelous: Interviews. Things Under Stephen's Desk. Stephen's Nerdiest Moments. Stephen Cracks Up. (These were syndicated on their Facebook page, so I hope everyone can see them.) And the final, musical number.

Epic Christmas Caroling from Improv Everywhere is just the coolest thing for the holiday season.

And a lovely compilation of Darlene Love singing "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) on Late Show with David Letterman. A bit of a behind-scenes performance at Late Show, featuring Paul Shaffer.

And while I'm at it, there are very few Chanukah songs, but this one from the Maccabeats is just about perfect. I posted it last year, and here it is again: Candlelight.

Craig Ferguson might have ended his late late night show, but there's still time to meet the man behind Geoff Peterson, the gay robot skeleton sidekick: Josh Robert Thompson. Also, this clip from the penultimate episode.

This house brings collecting art to a whole different level.

That should be enough holiday cheer for now. :)

Tis the Season

T'is the season for gifting. And to start, here's a Chanukah Gift Guide.

The Nerdist offers up a Gift Guide for Book Lovers. And for book and library lovers, there's Out of Print which sells library-related clothing and book bags.

In other links, here are the essentials you need to know about Mars. Because. Mars!

I saw Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part I and loved it. It was well done and true to the book. The things they added or changed worked perfectly. I can't wait to see Part II next year.

It's National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day here in the US. Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite kind of cookie. These itty folks love them, too.

Yummy Reasons to Celebrate

Tomorrow, August 2nd, is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. When it comes to ice cream sandwiches, I tend to be a traditionalist. Plain vanilla ice cream between soft, rectangular chocolate biscuits or cookies, or whatever else they're called, preferably from Good Humor. I usually get them from the Mister Softee truck. Yes, Mister Softee sells Good Humor ice cream, as well as its own soft serve ice cream. But whatever your preference, even if this isn't a holiday in your country, enjoy an ice cream sandwich tomorrow, if you can.
