With Marshmallows on Top

Here's a photo of the dessert from yesterday's lunch with a friend at
Dessert Sundae
Kutsher's Tribeca. Lunch was matzo ball soup and potato latkes. The dessert sundae is big enough that we asked to have it split for us. It comes with rainbow cookies, butter cookies, vanilla ice cream, salty caramel ice cream (amazing!), chocolate syrup, and marshmallows. So yummy.

Post-Chanukah Latkes

A friend and I went to one of our favorite restaurants, Kutsher's, for potato latkes. We also had hotdogs, a shared salad, and a sampling of cookies for dessert.

Flowers and Ice Cream

Had a lovely day yesterday with a couple of friends. First up was the Macy's annual Flower Show, then lunch, complete with dessert.

Yes, I've been a neglectful blogger, but somehow, time keeps getting away from me. Maybe I need more routine now that the routine of working is gone.

Ladies Who Lunch

One of the joys of retirement is being able to have a nice, leisurely lunch with friends who are also retired. Today, I joined two friends and former colleagues at Veselka's new Bowery location (well, just west of the Bowery) for pierogis (a variety: potato and cheese, chicken, and pot roast, with applesauce and sour cream -- I don't like sour cream, so removed it for the photo) and, for dessert, a slice of chocolate fudge cake. An afternoon of good food and good conversation. Can't beat it.

A Day at the BEA

Went to Book Expo America today. As a librarian, I was able to get in with a free pass my library system bought for staff. I mostly just walked around the entire exhibit hall. The lines for author autographs were obscenely long. The one for James Patterson seemed to be the worst, but there were others that seemed just as bad.

However, to ease the pain, many vendors were handing out chocolate. I scored three pieces of Dove dark chocolate. Yum!

Also picked up a mousepad, some bookmarks and buttons, a couple of catalogs, and a bunch of postcards. Chatted with some nice folks, too.

Then I went to Five Guys to get a burger. I've heard so much about the place and had to try it, but whenever I went by it, it was so crowded. Today, I hit it at a good time. The burger was a basic burger. I had it with ketchup and lettuce and the bun was a regular seeded bun. The burger was well cooked, juicy, and tasty, right up there with my favorites: GoodBurger and NY Burger Co. The fries were good, not as good as NY Burger Co's, but better than GoodBurger's.

Eggs with Links

I have a snarky, sarcastic side (really!) and this site is right up my ally: Let Me Google that for You.If only I could get away using it at work.

Find and suggest books for folks with the Bookulating Suggest-O-Mometer.

Improv Everywhere helped shed light on the New York Public Library's budget woes by restaging a scene out of Ghostbusters.

The Hypothetical Library contains unreal books by real authors.

And finally, proof I do eat other food besides chocolate. Here's yesterday's lunch.
Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toasted sourdough bread.

A Grand Day

IMG_1226
A friend and I went to the High Line park today and I can report that it's very nice. The city did a great job and it'll be even nicer when it's extended to 34th St. But it was too hot and humid to stay out for long.

After, we went to Le Grainne Cafe for lunch and had crepes, then ice cream for dessert. I didn't have my macro lens with me, so this picture isn't as well focused as I would've liked. But the restaurant was nice and cozy and the food was wonderful. You can get the crepes with a choice of 3 fillings. I had chicken, egg, and bacon.

Finally, we ducked into the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church which has lovely gardens and is one of the hidden wonders of the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan. You have to leave a photo ID to gain entrance, but it's worth it.

Ladies Who Lunch

IMG_2641A friend and I went to a French restaurant for lunch today. I was celebrating good news on my latest lab results. I'm still not all better, but the nasty bacteria has been beaten into submission. So I had a cheddar cheese omelette with amazing potatoes.

Tale of a Burger

IMG_2104

Today, I had a hamburger for lunch. Now, that might not seem like a big deal, but it was the first meat, other than turkey and chicken, that I've eaten since before I got sick in November. And it was good. It was better than good. It was yummylicious!

It's amazing the simple things that can make us happy.

Feeling: hopeful I might actually get well

Chanukah Commences

Chanukah officially started today at sunset. A friend and I had potato latkes (pancakes) for lunch to celebrate. And latkes need applesauce, as seen in this pic.

Then we got to enjoy yummy Belgian chocolates and cookies for dessert.

Monday Monday

So the dead router has been replaced, with a newer, better model, and all is good again. I am soooo very glad to not be using dial-up now. And I'm even more glad to not be using AOL.

Tried a new burger place for lunch, goodburger. Excellent burger, not too big, and the medium well was juicy. The string fries were tasty, too.

If you have a pet, it's time to start thinking of a Halloween costume for it. Here are some for cats. Found on J-Walk Blog.

I've been a bit depressed about the Mets' meltdown. I'd been looking forward to going to some playoff games. Now I don't even want to watch baseball til next season.

Fall TV

Fall is officially here. The new TV season has started. It's so nice to get new episodes again of How I Met Your Mother. That is one funny show.

And Heroes is back. Heroes is BACK! They pack surprises into this show on multiple levels. They've mastered cliffhangers and this first one of the season was a doozy, and yet, not exactly a surprise. The cliffhanger is forcing us to wait for answers we know will come because Heroes doesn't drag things out indefinitely.

Beautiful day. Busy workday. Lunch at the French restaurant again. I had eggs this time.

But I Hate Green

Well, maybe just intensely dislike, except for forest green, but I wouldn't want to live in a green room.
You Should Paint Your Room Green

Natural and balance, green can bring both calm and growth to your life.
Your green room will promote a more spiritual and peaceful outlook.
Green rooms are perfect for meditation, yoga, or just day dreaming.

It's so cold out that I'm too lazy to bundle up and get lunch, so I'm eating Cheezits from the vending machine here at work and blogging for lunch.
