Trouble Ahead

Things don't last. First, AOL is dropping its journals. No biggie. I ended all my AOL journals years ago.

Then I found out that the New York Burer Co. near work, where I sometimes get yummy scrambled egg sandwiches in the morning, is going to stop serving breakfasts as of next Friday. Upsetting, but I'll manage.

Then I found out my webhost, the hubby of my best friend, is getting out of the webhosting business. WTF? Now what do I do? Pretty much all my graphics for my blogs are on my website. I can move most over to Blogger. I'm not sure how to do the template graphics, though, so for a while, things might look weird here. I have until the end of October before he pulls the plug, so maybe I can get things mostly fixed by then.

But where do I put the ico file for my favicon? Can Bloggger store that for me? I'll probably do another website, if I can find a reliable host I can afford, but I'll start over, new domain and everything, so the graphic URLs will change. And I have to change all the links I have going to my site. I don't know that I'll remember where they all are. And if I do a new site, what should it be? I copied most of the site pages to a blog a few months ago, so I don't need to repeat that as a new site. I probably don't really need a site, but I like having one.

I so didn't need this to have to deal with now.

I Declare a Do-Over

I truly wish we could start this year over. This week has been one disaster after another. It was as if Baby New Year has been trying to see how much he could prove Murphy's Law. If things can go wrong, they will.

The slide into a day to forget began with my needing to return home after leaving my apartment building because I forgot my subway Metro card. Then there were lots of work annoyances I can't blog about. Then I seem to have lost my paycheck thingie for direct deposit that has info on it I really can't afford anyone to find, so I'm hoping I'll find it on my desk tomorrow when I get to my office. At least, clutz that I am, I didn't hurt myself.

Not a Good Day

Except for finding out my nuclear stress test was normal, there wasn't anything I'd call good about today. I still feel like crap, probably made worse by being nervous about the test results.

For 2 weeks now, there's been no hot water at work. It's starting to really annoy me, especially since today, at home, the water tank was supposed to be cleaned out but the water was supposed to be on by 6 pm when I usually get home, but it wasn't. Around 8 pm, cold water starting coming from the hot water spiggots, but nothing from the cold water ones. I so need a shower, but the water coming from the shower head is like ice water.

And of course, I'm still on the laptop, with its spotty internet connection and moody booting behavior. The new video card came, so at some point, hubby will try to install it and I'll find out if my PC is still working.

There is something wrong about having the Mets former general manager Steve Phillips broadcasting the Mets' playoff games, given how some of his boneheaded decisions nearly destroyed the team before he was replaced by the brilliant Omar Minaya. Especially when he sounds like an idiot half the time. The other half of the time, he sounds barely competent.

Geez, I want a nice hot shower so much, I'd even trade chocolate for it.

Okay, I just checked. The hot water seems to be getting warm. Still no cold water, so I don't know if we can flush toilets yet, since those use cold water. I think I'll give the shower another try.

Maybe I need one of these USB Hamster Wheels.

The Day's Annoyances

You can tell it's a Monday by how annoying the day is overall.
  1. No baseball. (No baseball Wednesday or Thursday, either, for the All-Star break.)
  2. Barnes & Noble moved things around again. After having to ask where the new pbs now were located, I told the poor, hapless salesguy that this is the sort of thing that drives customers like me to shop online. (And I didn't mean b&n.com, either.)
  3. Busy day at work, heavy on the phone reference work. Most people were nice, but there always the few who can drive a librarian nuts.
  4. Big guy smacked into me this morning and knocked the dolphin charm off the keychain I use as a pull on my shoulder bag. I didn't notice it was missing til too late, but that's the only way I could've lost it. Thank goodness for eBay. I have bids on 2 dolphin charms now. (I figured I could use one as a backup. I feel like I lost a lucky charm.)
  5. I had to go to work.
  6. I had to go back to work after lunch.
  7. Did I mention, 'No baseball'? heh
There were some good things, too, however.
  1. Not as hot as I thought it would be.
  2. It didn't rain.
  3. Yummy chocolate shake from Mr. Softee for lunch.
  4. More charms I got on eBay arrived in the mail.
