Good News: The gum seems to be out of the jeans.
Bad News: As the jeans have been drying, there is now a dark splotch where the WD40 was sprayed.
Good News: You can't see where the dye came off.
Bad News: The jeans still stink a bit from the WD40.
Good News: The jeans are wearable.
Bad News: But possibly not out in public. Definitely not to work, anymore.
The Mets swept Chicago Cubs. The sweetest part of that is that tonight's win was on national TV as ESPN's Sunday Game of the Week.
I didn't do a hell of a lot else today, other than reading blogs, watching the tape of Friday's SG-1 and SG: Atlantis (I'd seen Battlestar Galactica after the concert), and washing my jeans 3 times. I'm such a slacker. Hmmmm.... I also read the last 3 Publishers Weekly and a few entertainment mags (well, skimmed mostly), so maybe I didn't slack off all that much, after all.

Gum Update
I thought I'd post this for the 1 or 2 of you eagerly wondering if I had luck with the gum removal. Someone on one of AOL's writers' message boards had suggested WD40. A later suggestion was for GooGone, but we'd already gotten the WD40, so I tried that.
Hubby found it yesterday afternoon. He had other things that were similar for de-icing but since we didn't know if they had the same active ingredient as the WD40, I wanted to be sure to use the WD40 which had been recommended. The small bit of gum to the side came right off when I brushed at it with a toothbrush, with no sign of a stain. The bigger glob of gum needed a second try, and that ended up taking out some of the dye. I've now washed it 3 times, and now, $4.50 later (for the coin-operated machines in our laundry room), the jeans still stink. I have them airing out and drying on the terrace. There's a fairly large light splotch where the gum used to be, so I don't think I can get away with wearing them to work, anymore, but they should be wearable. Provided they ever stop smelling.

When Will This Week Ever End?
Computer system still down at work, but otherwise, not too bad. They think it's the server, but they don't know what's wrong, so it might still be a while til it's fixed.
Saw Neil Sedaka in concert at Westbury tonight and he was in fine voice and his songlist is extensive. His rendition of "My Yiddishe Mama" is amazing. And of course, the night had to end on a sour note when I discovered I'd been sitting (on a cushioned seat no less) on gum. Some little twerp who saw one of the kiddie matinees they have there must've left it. Why the brat couldn't drop it on the floor like everyone else, I don't know. But now my favorite pair of jeans, the only ones that actually fit comfortably these days, are ruined. The gum stain, now augmented by the paper I sat on in the car to keep from getting gum all over that cusion, is about two inches long and a bit over half an inch wide. The jeans are lightweight ones from L.L. Bean I got 2 years ago and I don't see them in the catalog anymore so I probably can't replace them. I am so not happy right now.
