Happy Halloween

I've been avoiding a lot of junk food in order to keep my weight down, but I had to have some Halloween candy. And I do love Candy Corn.

Chocolate Photo

There is something a bit disturbing about this yellow M&M.

Chocolate Dreams

So these Lindt Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles came into my life and it was love at first bite. They do seem to have a teensy bit of an aftertaste, but well worth it because the actual taste is amazing, a perfect blending of dark chocolate shell and creamy chocolate filling. I tried them refrigerated, too, which was interesting. I prefer my chocolate chilled, but the cream really should be unrefrigerated for the full effect.

I really can't believe I've never had these before. I have had chocolate truffles, of course, but not from Lindt. This won't be the last time, for sure.

Chocolate in New York

While walking around the Upper Westside of Manhattan, a friend and I stumbled upon a couple of chocolatey establishments. The Chocolate Works is chock full of chocolate and candy goodness. I bought a chocolate covered pretzel for a taste test.

The chocolate coating on the pretzel was milk chocolate, not my preference, but the ample portion of dark chocolate chips on top of that helped give the treat a nice chocolate-salty pretzel balance.

We also came upon the Treat House, but didn't have time to stop in. That will have to wait for another day. Based on their website, I'm looking forward to visiting the place.

Locally Speaking

Just got this spam comment on my book review blog, on a post from November 2005! It goes thusly:
"Hi there colleagues, how is the whole thing, and what you desire to
say on the topic of this piece of writing, in my view its truly remarkable for me."
Yeah, I have no idea what the "whole thing" is, either. The post was a meme I was doing back then.

In chocolate news, I found a candy store about a half hour walk from my home, called Sugar Rush. I bought some chocolate bars. Reviews to come. Apparently, according to their Facebook page, the store is Emily's Sugar Rush. They didn't have any business cards, nor do they seem to have a website. They do have candy. And chocolate.

S'Mores for Halloween

I need to try these S'mores Candy Corn from Brach's. As soon as I can find them.

I also need to redo this template. I suspect I'll be jettisoning a lot of the sidebar stuff. I hope that will get rid of the weird cgi download thing. I figure most folks read via a feed reader these days, anyway, and come to the actual blog to comment only. Since commenting has been down, that won't be a lot of people.

Edited to add: Never mind! I found it. I deleted one gadget at a time (well, I cut the script and saved to the clipboard), tried the blog, still had the problem, put back the gadget info, and so on til I got to the bottom and discovered an empty gadget. I used to have a surrealism generator at the bottom. Just fun nonsense, and I hadn't even noticed it was gone. Actually, I'd forgotten all about it. But I removed it, so all is well once more. I still might remove a few things from the left sidebar because it is rather long. Whew. What a relief!

Trip to the Candy Store

It was a fluke, a bit of serendipity. I was walking down Broadway from Forbidden Planet, where I'd picked up my weekly fix of comic books, and instead of going to my usual subway stop for the trip home, continued on to the next one, and stumbled across IT'SUGAR, which opened a mere couple of months ago, as I learned. They have the usual old-style candy fare and some newer candies, plus gift items. They also had the bubblegum-flavored Peeps I'd been meaning to try.

Peeps, Gum, and Chocolate
The Peeps were fresh, and I could taste a vague bubblegum flavor, but they weren't nearly as tasty as regular Peeps. I haven't tried the Gold Mine gum nuggets yet. I think I had them when I was a kid as they seem familiar.
Chocolate Bar
Most of the chocolate bars were milk chocolate, also with cute sayings on them. This was the only dark chocolate bar I saw ("One Chocolate Bar is Half the Calories of Two Chocolate Bars"), and it's pretty good, but rather sweet for dark chocolate. I don't see the cacao percentage noted anywhere, but it can't be very high.

Smarties

Thanks to one of my cyber pals in Canada, I finally got to taste Smarties. They're pretty awesome, for milk chocolate. The candy has more of a kick than milk chocolate M&Ms, though can't touch dark chocolate M&Ms. Let's face it, nothing milk chocolate can touch dark chocolate for chocolicious goodness. For me, at least.

Smarties
They sure are pretty.

Halloween Star Wars Style

Stan, Steve, and Stu Pick Halloween Pumpkins to Carve
I love taking photos for Halloween using holiday candy because I get to eat the props after. So, today I snacked on Candy Corn, candy pumpkins, and Ghost Peeps.

I also had the frozen Dark Chocolate-Covered Pumpkin Peep, which wasn't as good as the chilled one. The marshmallow didn't freeze solid, so there was no snap when I bit into it and it was more taffy-like than anything and tough to chew. So, room temp was good, and chilled was best. I'm happy to have been able to provide this public service.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
