Signs of Spring

There are two sure signs that spring has sprung. The first is the return of baseball!

Mets Opening Day

Emmy Rossum Sings the National Anthem

The Mets Honor Superstorm Sandy First Responders
The Mets beat up on the Padres, 11-2 and hold the best Opening Day record. It's what they do after the first game that's the problem. heh

The second sure sign of spring is my allergies start up. Ah-choo!

Spring's Coming

Nothing says spring like dark chocolate M&Ms pastel colors for Easter. Yum.

Harbinger of Spring

march2010 028

Most places, it's the first robin. Here in NYC, it's the return of the Mr. Softee trucks.

Spring is Nearly Here

First harbinger of spring. Once the Mr. Softee trucks are out, spring is nearly here.

Meanwhile, on top of everything else, I have a cold. Scratchy throat, runny nose, congestion, the works.

Feeling: sick

Spring Fever

I've been trying to not blog much about sports here, but this article about a female umpire in Double A ball (second highest rung on the minor leagues ladder) who will be on the crew for Thursday's major league exhibition game is worthy of mention. I hope she makes it into Triple A ball and is picked for the majors after that.

As for me, I was really dragging today. It cooled down a bit, but was still nice today. I wish I'd had more energy to enjoy it, but I did manage the walk to the comic shop on lunch hour to pick up my weekly batch of comics.

Spring Links and Things

Isn't this chaise the greatest thing? I want one. And I wouldn't mind this shirt, either: The Comma Sutra, on BookLust.

Hershey's Chocolate Portfolio has been expanded. Found in my Google Alerts for Chocolate. As was this article on chocolate, the five senses, and mention of a Gold Bunny Hunt.

This came out just right.
You Are a Realist

You don't see the glass as half empty or half full. You see what's exactly in the glass.
You never try to make a bad situation seem better than it is...
But you also never sabotage any good things you have going on.
You are brutally honest in your assessments of situations - and this always seems to help you cope.

This one is kinda funny.
You're a Pack Rat in Training

You know those crazy old people with a ton of video tapes and cats?
Well, you're training to be one. Time to do some spring cleaning. Even if it isn't spring!

The problem with the quiz is it doesn't really allow for someone who collects a lot of crap things, yet is also fairly neat and organized about it. Or someone who selectively collects and the things collected aren't items in the quiz. I think of myself more as a recovering pack rat. heh

Spring showed up today. Rainy (and it's not April yet) and warm. Not much flora action yet, though. And the heat is on, the windows are open, and I'm hot. My feet were even too hot in my new Crocs, so I had to put my slides on, instead.

Those Groundhogs Don't Know Nothin'

Forget the groundhogs. The true signs of spring:

Days are getting longer. It is now still light when I leave work at 5 p.m. (Yeeha!)

Pitchers and Catchers report in 10 days!!! Is it a coincidence that P&C is always (well, it can vary a day here and there by team, but still...) February 15th, one day after Valentine's Day? I think not. (I have no idea why that's related. Humor me, okay?)

The rest of the baseball teams report on 2/21, thereabouts.

Football season officially ends with the Super Bowl — TODAY!!! I'm not a big football fan, but this year seemed especially long, mostly because I'm a Jets fan and well, it's just not good for one's mental health to be a Jets fan these days.

So what are your signs of spring?
