Minis Galore

This weekend is Philadelphia Miniaturia, so hubby drove me down today so I could do some shopping. Here's a pic of what I bought. Note the mini chocolate treats (behind the basket of apples)! They look good enough to eat, but at 1:12 scale, they wouldn't be very filling, even if they were edible. ;)

That's an oil painting on the right, by the way.

Truly Amazing Teeny Tiny Linkage

The dollhouse and miniatures collector in me couldn't resist checking out these links: These mini cities are full of awesome. These tiny cities are pretty good, too. These mini books are nice. I've got at least one fully miniaturized book. They tend to be expensive, so usually, I settle for mini books with miniaturized covers but blank pages. And of course, dollhouses, including Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle in the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry. One of these days, I'll visit Chicago and see it. Links found on Lists Galore.

And here are some flickr groups specializing in creative photography of tiny figures: Life in MiniatureLittle People, Tiny People, and my own Itty Bitty set of pics.

More Crafting

IMG_9197Worked more on the miniature bed tonight. I still have the blanket and pillows to do. Yes, I saved the hardest parts for last.

The big snow storm never showed up, and I was all ready to take snow photos. Ah well. Maybe next winter. Although there are still few months of cold weather left this winter, so there's still time

Craft Day at Shelly's

Mostly PaintedI finally started finishing the unfinished miniature bed I'm doing up for a "honeymoon suite." I don't sew, so I'm going to be gluing the fabric onto the foam mattress. I've just finished gluing on the fabric for the sheet (not pictured), and after that dries, I'll tackle the dust ruffle and the pillows. It came with small pillows, so I might try to find foam and make larger ones.

That's pretty much all I did today, other than upload photos to flickr to make up for not being able to do much on flickr last night due to it being down much of the evening.

Today, I went to the annual show of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, held at NYC's Marriott hotel on Broadway, and Mal got a scarf and hat.

Miniature Mania

Thought I'd show off one of the dollhouses I have. This one I bought already constructed and painted. The walls and floors were stenciled. I'm still working on fixing it up. The attic will be a bedroom and bathroom. The second floor still needs kitchen wall cabinets and wall hangings in the living room, plus a coffee table for the guy living there to put up his feet. The apartment needs lamps, too, but I'm not electrifying which could damage the stenciling.

Right now, the "tenant" is busily blogging on his laptop. I think I should get him a cell phone, too. Yes, they make those in mini, too. There's a box of pizza on top of the fridge and some Chinese takeout containers on the kitchen island, in front of the microwave against the wall. That's a stereo CD player on top of the cabinet in the left far corner. And since it's an old NYC building, it has an old-fashioned radiator.

Downstairs, is a psychic's shop. I got the idea for that when I was coming home from the mini show in NY back in September, after buying the house, and saw one at street level. I've always wanted to do something a bit more lush than my usual contemporary houses and shops. The furniture is all crafted by artisans, except the two former dining room chairs and the cart, all of which I touched up with gold paint last night to give them highlights. I made the wall drape last night. I'd forgotten I'd gotten the beaded fringe for a craft project, but when I found it last night while looking for ribbon, I knew it would be perfect.

The Long Weekend

Went to visit my best friend, J, for the weekend. We shopped (she needed curtains), then went to the previews for Philadelphia Miniaturia Friday night. This was the first time we did the previews (someday, we hope to do a workshop or two), which was dangerous to my checkbook because no one had sold out of anything yet and there was plenty of wonderful minis to buy.

Saturday, we shopped more at the show, then went to the party at night, which involved a cash bar and dancing. J and I danced. Well, I call what I do dancing, but it's more moving to the music than actual dancing. But we had fun.

Sunday, we met JustRose for lunch, as I mentioned previously, at the Cracker Barrel and I had yummy sourdough French toast and bacon.
