Cleaning Aid

I love these machine washable, microfiber cleaning mitts I got at Williams-Sonoma. According to the website, they're exclusive to the store.

The verso is the opposite color, so the lavender mitt is yellow on the other side and the yellow one is lavender. They also have green and pink ones.

I got the lavender one a month or so ago and love it so much, I got another for when one is in the wash. They're soft and fun to use, and almost make dusting a pleasure instead of a chore. What I really like is how they fit into tiny spaces. I've even run them along my computer keyboard.

I don't have stock in Williams-Sonoma or the maker of the mitts, so I have nothing to gain here by raving about them. But I hate cleaning enough that when I find something as good as these mitts, I have to tell folks about them.

In keeping with the theme of today's post, I did the laundry. Go, me.

Three Days Gone

You know you're getting older when the highlight of a 3-day holiday weekend is doing the laundry and cleaning the Venetian blinds in your bathroom.

I'm just saying.

*sigh*

Here's the Ninja Devil Ducky (or is that, Devil Ninja Ducky?) I got on eBay. Cute fella, ain't he?
27Dec06 002

And he plays well with others. You'll note the female pronoun in the pic below. I'm still deciding on ninja's sex.
Duckies

No work today, so did the laundry and backed up the picture files on my PC. Didn't have to do much cleaning because I did most of that on Monday, that day we get off for a holiday I don't celebrate. I'd much rather get a Jewish holiday off and not need to take vacation time for that and work on Christmas. I know a number of Jewish people who would work on Christmas at the library (well, I did, but some of them have since retired).

This is very cool. A Google Maps mashup to spell with buildings and such. Link found on Google Blogoscoped.

And so concludes tonight's blogging. Thanks for dropping by. See you tomorrow.

Domestic Diva Goodness

Following yesterday's cleaning of the bathrooms, I did the laundry today, which gave me an hour or so of reading time as I brought a book with me down to the laundry room in our apartment building's basement, as has become my habit. Got it all fluffed and folded and put away, too.

Also have been going through the stacks of magazine articles and did some more photo scanning. I'm up to California. Did the San Diego Zoo shots from July 1979 tonight. I've been in California many times, so there are a LOT of photos in this batch to scan and that's not counting the shots of family. I have a lot of cousins living in the San Fernando Valley. This project has been more labor intensive and addicting than I'd thought. I'm getting a bit obsessive about it.

Celebrated my accomplishments with a chocolate malted for lunch. Figured I'd deserved it.

T-Storm Activity

Perfect day for cleaning and decluttering, what with thunderstorms in the afternoon and now, tonight. Some of the strikes were so close, I could see the lightning bolt out the dining room window. Heavy rain, too. Lightning was so bad this afternoon, it knocked out the cable and shut the TV where I was watching Pedro Martinez try to be the first Mets' pitcher to get a no-hitter (he blew that, then blew the game, because, when it comes to no-hitters, the Mets are cursed or something). The TV responded immediately when I turned it back on, but the cable box needed a few moments to reboot (we have digital cable and the system is mighty sensitive. The computer, on a surge protector was on throughout and just fine.

Got some decluttering done, including clearing room in my closet for the sandals and shoes I've recently purchased and sorting through some old audiotapes. One had my grandparents singing happy birthday to me, my little cousin reciting the alphabet, and the moon landing I'd taped off the TV. There also was a lot of silliness between myself and a long lost friend. So weird hearing my voice, especially from 1969. Some of the cassette had been recorded on reel-to-reel, and copied onto cassette when I held the microphone next to the reel machine's speaker. Tech sure has changed since then. Now I want to get the tapes onto CD, if possible. Would love to get the videotape of my family from the '50s, copied from the old movies my father had made, onto CD, too.

The day went quickly, but I was able to get up early (9:00 a.m. which on a Sunday, for me, is early) and managed to get a lot done. The bathrooms and kitchen might not be sparkling, but they're a lot cleaner than they were before noon. I even managed to make pasta salad for dinner.

Gee, I sound downright domestic, and as a button I have says: "The only thing domestic about me is that I was born in this country." heh

Disclaimer: I found the photo on the web. Our lightning and sky were not purple; they were white and dark blue/gray respectively.

Day of the Domestic Diva

Day off and decided to stay home and clean and catch up on stuff (especially since the forecast included thunderstorms and one's coming up now), instead of going shopping and to the gym. Decided to clean out the medicine chest in my bathroom and move the middle shelf up higher. Talk about WTF was I thinking moments. I could not get the right hinge back in. Mind you, these things were never removed in the 20 years I've lived here and probably not in the 20 years previous, so it was amazing I got them out in the first place. Was thinking I'd have to wait for hubby to come home and try it, but finally, persistence paid off and now I've got the taller stuff comfortably on the bottom shelf and the rest of the toiletries loaded back in and all is well with the world. The agony of defeat yielded to the joy of victory.

In between cleaning bathrooms (this is a 2-bathroom apartment) and dusting, I've been surfing blogs. Found some fun stuff. And had a yummy chocolate malted for lunch.

Oooo, I like these. But then, I'm a socks/pantyhose addict. Well, shoes, too, and a whole lot of other consumer goods, but still, these are so cool. (Found on Barbed Lyre LJ)

75° South is a blog of Antarctica. Fascinating stuff here. Also, giant furniture sculpture and a car covered with computer keys. (Found on Boing Boing)
