Play Ball

Flickr has removed support for Blogger, so I thought I'd test the embed code. It means I'll have to keep opening Blogger to post, rather than use a button on flickr. It seems that so many more people photoblog from flickr to Twitter and Tumblr now and so few of us who use Blogger, that they felt they could cut us off. I never thought I'd be blogging for so long, I'd be doing it from the time Google brought Blogspot to a time when Blogger and similar services (WordPress has also been booted to the curb by flickr) become less relevant than microblogging services. But I am still here and have no intention of leaving. So there.

Anyway, the official start of the baseball season here in the US is less than a week away, so I thought I'd commemorate that with a photo. And test that embed code thing I mentioned above.

Nope, can't do it. Can embed only a slideshow of my entire photostream which I do not want to do. So, it'll mean uploading pics directly to Blogger, which means using up my free Google storage. I'm not sure how long that will last. But here's the photo.

Gimme the Chocolate

Before we get to the chocolate, I have to share this link. Office Supplies Art, found on The Presurfer. Very cool.

As for the chocolate, I participate in a photo meme type group on flickr where we post macro pics based on weekly themes. This coming week is "floating." So, being the chocoholic ice cream lover that I am, my first thought was chocolate ice cream floating in root beer. Here's one of the pics.

It was very yummy. I usually make malteds, so an ice cream float is always a treat. I had vanilla ice cream and orange sherbet in root beer while on vacation. This is the first with chocolate ice cream probably since last summer.

Flickr Picnic

AKA, flick-nic.



Today was the flickr group NYC Social's annual picnic, and my first outing with the group. I was disappointed only 5 of us were there, plus these "guys," and I knew 2 of the 4 already. It was nice meeting 2 new people and we had fun. I just wish more people had shown up. We had KFC and cookies. I had to take half my chocolate chip cookies back home. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but more than I'd thought I'd be carrying on the return trip. It was very hot and humid, a real NYC summer day.

Flickr Meet-Up

I'd made plans today to meet up with a couple of flickr friends, one of whom I hadn't met before. She had come into NYC for the weekend, so it was a rare opportunity I didn't want to pass up due to this nagging colitis thing. Fortunately, I was feeling more energetic than I have in 3 weeks and we had loads of fun looking at holiday decorations and taking pics with our toys at Rockefeller Center.

Flickr might be a great site for storing and sharing photos, but it's also offered me a wonderful place to make friends online, where I start out sharing a hobby with people, and in the case of the toy photographers, which is one of my photography loves, we share a couple of hobbies: collecting toys and taking pictures. Not only have I made friends via flickr, but our toys have become fast friends, too. Here is my duckie and her Babo Uglydoll posing by the tree in Rockefeller Center.

Flickr Friends

Yesterday, after work, I got together with a couple of flickr friends. One is someone I've known in person for a year, and the other was visiting NYC and we thought it would be nice to meet. All 3 of us enjoy taking pictures, especially of toys, and we really hit it off. It's really fun getting to meet people I know online.

Day of the Donut

Today was Day of the Donut, on flickr. After flickr added videos and people started protesting, the We Demand Donuts group was formed, and flickr announced the Day of the Donut. For people in San Francisco, that meant free donuts if you showed up today at the right donut shop at the appointed time. There was an unofficial donut meetup in NYC, but I couldn't make it. I did get a donut, tho, from The Donut Pub. I selected a chocolate glazed beauty.

Duckie Flickr Meet-Up

Spent the afternoon with two flickr friends, walking around Midtown Manhattan, taking pics of holiday decorations and checking out the wares at the holiday shops in Bryant Park.

And some of our duckies, plus Tintin, got acquainted.


A new popcorn place on Fifth Avenue was giving out samples, caramel and cheese popcorn in little cups. Pretty tasty, especially the caramel flavor.


We stopped into a deli with seating for a snack and to get warm. I had a chocolate rolled cake thingie.

flickr Meetup

One of my flickr contacts has moved to NYC, so we spent a few hours together taking pics of some of our rubber ducks in Manhattan. She's the 3rd online friend I've met in person and we had a lot of fun. She's very nice and fun to be with. And our duckies got along great. We both ended up buying more.

Here, some of my ducks enjoy a root beer float with chocolate ice cream at Baskin Robbins.

Photo Fun

Been playing a bit more with Flickr. So far, I have a photo set for food and drink and it's rotating photos in the sidebar. I might make more sets, but I think I'll stick with food photos so I can showcase them here. My other photos will be displayed over on Creative Endeavors as I've been doing. Other photos will appear here, from time to time, like this one which is one corner of my desk at work.

This is a test post from , a fancy photo sharing thing.

Okay, I guess you can figure out that I'm trying flickr. Sort of a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" thing, except I wasn't trying to beat them. I did think it might be worth having an alternative to uploading photos to my website and Blogger to post photos here, especially if I ever move my photoblog to Blogger.

Mets have guaranteed themselves a winning season, which is a nice step up for them, with tonight's win. WooHoo!
