Make it Mars!

I'm not sure I ever mentioned it here, but I'm a Mars Lover. I've been a space buff since Alan Shepard's first historic flight for the US, sat enthralled during the moon landing in '69, and have thrilled to the adventures of the little rovers on Mars.

My love affair with Mars started when I started writing a novel (as yet unpublished) set on Mars and started reading up on the Red Planet. A friend got me topographical maps and a Mars globe! I've read a dozen novels set on Mars and some non-fiction, too, and read what I can online. So, it was a thrill to watch the landing last night -- at 1:30ish in the freaking a.m. EDT and then stayed up for the 2:15 a.m. press briefing that ended an hour or so later, something I never could've done if I hadn't retired. And if the internet hadn't been able to bring me live streaming.

I took some tribute photos. The first is from way too early this morning before I went to bed and the rest were taken just a short while ago. I hope you enjoy them!

Duckfest

Today was Duckfest, run by Duck Planet, an annual gathering of rubber duck fans that this year was held in NYC. It was my first time (and only time unless it's in NYC again). It's basically a party with about 20 or so people for a few hours, with a rubber duckie theme. We played Ducko (Bingo) and I won a rubber duck. There were yummy cupcakes and duck shaped cookies. After, a few of us went out to dinner.

Some Snowy Silliness

There's nothing like rubber duckies to brighten a gray, dreary day, the St. Patrick's Day parade notwithstanding. So I took 5 of my rubber ducks out for a photo session. There would be a bush growing in this pot if it was summer, but for now, it's a snowy duck pond. I think they're plotting something, don't you?

Well, I found another site to spend my money: Celebriducks! I'm gonna try to get the Mike Piazza duck. I have to email for availability.

The Presurfer alerts us to the Monoface site. You click the face and the features change. This isn't complicated, but for some odd reason, the entertainment factor is high, like the thrill you get watching pigeons try to eat a piece of bread bigger than their beak. .... You mean, you don't find that entertaining?

Here's the Ninja Devil Ducky (or is that, Devil Ninja Ducky?) I got on eBay. Cute fella, ain't he?


And he plays well with others. You'll note the female pronoun in the pic below. I'm still deciding on ninja's sex.


No work today, so did the laundry and backed up the picture files on my PC. Didn't have to do much cleaning because I did most of that on Monday, that day we get off for a holiday I don't celebrate. I'd much rather get a Jewish holiday off and not need to take vacation time for that and work on Christmas. I know a number of Jewish people who would work on Christmas at the library (well, I did, but some of them have since retired).
