Chocolicious Wisdom

Dove Chocolate Wrappers
The wrappers on the Dove Valentine's Day Chocolate Hearts each had a bit of wisdom typed inside. Here are the ones I saved, in no particular order.

  • "Love is the only true adventure."
  • "Celebrate family and friends."
  • "Get swept away by love."
  • "Hug someone today."
  • "Be happy, be you."
  • "Love without regrets."
  • "Believe in those you love."
  • "Trust with your heart, not your head."
  • "Life is too short to wait."
  • "Love is closer than you think."
  • "Chocolate is a way of life."
  • "The best things in life are chocolate."
  • "Something delicious is about to happen."
  • "Be your own valentine."
  • "Laugh until your heart overflows."
  • "Real friends share chocolate."

The Wisdom of Chocolate

I saw this somewhere, but for the life of me, I can't recall where. But I do love the sentiment.

"Chocolate doesn't ask silly questions; chocolate understands."

I think that's my new motto.

Words to Live By

I normally find The Lockhorns comic strip (well, it's a one panel comic) fairly routine, and quite dull the last few years, but I read it out of habit and a few days ago, I was rewarded with this gem. Loretta, talking to her friend while eating candy, says: "I put 'Eat Chocolate' on my day's 'To Do' list... It gives me a sense of accomplishment."

I think I'll follow that advice!

Favorite Fortune Cookie Fortunes

I found a bunch of these while going through a shoebox of old stuff I've collected over the years. They're still good.
  • "You shall sit on the tack of success and rise quickly."
  • "Every person is the architect of his own fortune."
  • "Unnecessary words may detract from the power of your speech."
  • "Forget the doubts and fears that are creeping into your heart."
  • "Eccentricity is the spice of life."
  • "A friend is a present you give yourself."
and last, but not least.
  • "A wise man knows everything a shrewd one, everybody."

New York Quote

In labeling the old posts here, I found this in one of the earliest posts on this version of Cyber Chocolate and got tickled by it all over again, so I'm reposting this bit from the post...
A line from David Letterman..., in reference to a news report about a
finger found in a woman's salad at a restaurant...: "New York is a tough town. Even
your appetizers give you the finger."

Vacation Minus 55 Minutes

It's late in the day and my brain is fried. Nothing like a looming 9 workdays off to get me to clean my desk at work. And when I get back here in 2 weeks, there will be piles of crap and a gazillion emails to work through and it'll be like I never cleaned up.

This Quote of the Day really resonated.
"The more you find out about the world, the more opportunities there are to laugh at it."

How Hard?

Saw this on the back of a tee-shirt of a guy working on a building down the block from work:
"Concrete Men Don't Leave Til It's Hard."
Gotta love it.

Thought for the Day

From Quote of the Day on my Google Personalized Page:
"The only good ideas are the ones I can take credit for."
- R. Stevens
Some days, that's so apt. Anyway, I was so busy catching up on blog reading, that I didn't have time last night for blog posting. With luck, I'll pick up some boffo ideas for more posts here.

Quote of the Day

I studied Wittgenstein in college (I minored in Philosophy) and this quote showed up as the Quote of the Day on my Personalized Google page, so I had to share it.
"If people never did silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done."
- Ludwig Wittgenstein

Words to Live By

Quote of the Day: "Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual."
- Terry Pratchett

Which brings to mind something I heard years ago: "Never eat anything bigger than your head." I didn't recall the attribution, so I Googled it and got a lot of different ones. So, I figure it's fair game, so to speak.

Here's a bit of wisdom I came up with years ago: "It's often best to leave sleeping library patrons alone, because awake, they're often more annoying than their snoring is."

Anyone have any personal wisdom to share? Leave 'em in the comments so we all can enjoy them. If I get enough, I'll put 'em in a post.

Five Factors of Me

This came out remarkably close, though I'm nowhere close to being a perfectionist. I firmly believe that quite often good enough is good enough. And I'll try new things if there's no danger or risk involved. heh But otherwise, given how few questions were asked, this caught me fairly well.

Your Five Factor Personality Profile

Extroversion:

You have low extroversion.
You are quiet and reserved in most social situations.
A low key, laid back lifestyle is important to you.
You tend to bond slowly, over time, with one or two people.

Conscientiousness:

You have high conscientiousness.
Intelligent and reliable, you tend to succeed in life.
Most things in your life are organized and planned well.
But you borderline on being a total perfectionist.

Agreeableness:

You have medium agreeableness.
You're generally a friendly and trusting person.
But you also have a healthy dose of cynicism.
You get along well with others, as long as they play fair.

Neuroticism:

You have low neuroticism.
You are very emotionally stable and mentally together.
Only the greatest setbacks upset you, and you bounce back quickly.
Overall, you are typically calm and relaxed - making others feel secure.

Openness to experience:

Your openness to new experiences is high.
In life, you tend to be an early adopter of all new things and ideas.
You'll try almost anything interesting, and you're constantly pushing your own limits.
A great connoisseir of art and beauty, you can find the positive side of almost anything.

House Works

Draw a House and have your personality analyzed.

As with other such drawing/analysis tools, this seems flawed. First, a lot depends on one's skill at drawing, and in this case, one's skill at drawing online. I wasn't nearly as elaborate as I'd be if I was doing this with pen and paper.

Second, it missed my whole literal-mindedness. If I'm told to draw a house, it wouldn't occur to me to draw that house next to other houses. However, I would think that my drawing a solitary house would suggest I'm at least a bit of a loner, but that got lost in the shuffle and my analysis said:
"Based on your drawing and the 10 answers you gave this is a summary of your personality:

"Your house tells the world that you ought to be a leader. You are a freedom lover and a strong person. You love your house and family. You are a gifted artist as well."

The above is the most accurate part.

"Once you have a problem, you need a friend with you. Your life is always full of changes. You are very tidy person. There's nothing wrong with that because you're pretty popular among friends. Your life is always full of changes."

The older I get, the less change I like. I'm organized, not tidy. I'm also not popular and don't always need a friend with me when I have problems. Sometimes, I want to be left alone to deal with things.

"You will avoid being alone and seek the company of others whenever possible. You love excitement and create it wherever you go. You see the world as it is, not as you believe it should be."

I do see things as they are, but wish they were different. I don't seek out others, though I do enjoy the company of others. I can be left alone for days and get so involved with what I'm doing, I'll barely notice I'm alone.

"You added a flower into your drawing. The flower signifies that you long for love. It also safe to say that others don't see you as a flirt. You don't think much about yourself."

I added a flower (well, 6 of them along the front of the house) because the thing said to add a garden and I figured a garden has flowers. I drew 2 trees first, then figured I should add flowers.

At any rate, you, too, can draw houses and you can add them to my new street: Cyber Chocolate Way. If you add a house to the street, leave me a comment so I'll know to go look.

And my apologies to whoever posted the link to this, because I can't remember where I found it due to getting so involved with building my house and street.

The Friday Follies

Specialty Cakes that are amazing.

Personally, I think the diamond chocolate replica of Africa is a bit too much. I'd be worried about swallowing diamonds as I scarfed down chunks of the chocolate.

I posted the link to this Heineken Mars commercial on Alternate Reality, but figured I'd share it here, too. This commercial is funny, and seems to be getting a lot of internet play, but it takes a bit of time to load.

Who Should Paint You: Andy Warhol

You've got an interested edge that would be reflected in any portrait
You don't need any fancy paint techniques to stand out from the crowd!

The way the phones were ringing off the hook today at work, if not for the calendar telling me it was Friday, I would've been sure it was a Monday.

Found an interesting group blog: Blog Sisters. I had only enough time to skim, but I liked what I saw. Very eclectic group.

It's actually light out now when I leave work at 5 pm. Sure, it gets dark soon after, but still... it's LIGHT! Spring is coming. Trust me on this. Even if we get a blizzard before it comes, spring is coming.

Rainy Day Me

Except it's not raining, just cold and windy. Day off, ended up staying home, cleaned bathrooms, made icons for LiveJournal, and did this quiz. So nice to know that when I'm stuck for something to blog about, BlogThings will come through.
You Are Rain

You can be warm and sexy. Or cold and unwelcoming.
Either way, you slowly bring out the beauty around you.

You are best known for: your touch

Your dominant state: changing

I find these results amusing and quite odd. But when you consider the choices: wind, hail, snow, sunny day.... I doubt I'm any of those, either. heh

Perfect Major

I've done some of these what I should('ve) major(ed) in quizzes, but I don't think I've done this one. And I'll admit, I was a bit generous with my answers, basing them on my desire to pursue some things, not what I actually have time for. Still, my psych major from college is vindicated, I guess.
