Sporadic Posting

I never thought I wouldn't be posting every day here, and yet, that's what's happened. I feel boring right now. And lazy. I could sort through the links posted on the link blogs and share the best here, but I'm too lazy to do that.

A few people are retiring at work and we had some snacks today as part of the farewell partying. The Whoopie Pies were yummy. So were the chips.

Duckfest

Today was Duckfest, run by Duck Planet, an annual gathering of rubber duck fans that this year was held in NYC. It was my first time (and only time unless it's in NYC again). It's basically a party with about 20 or so people for a few hours, with a rubber duckie theme. We played Ducko (Bingo) and I won a rubber duck. There were yummy cupcakes and duck shaped cookies. After, a few of us went out to dinner.

Quick Bits

Had one of those "can't lose the lingering feeling it left but don't remember what it was about" dreams.

A lot of famous folks have died lately, from showbiz to literary. Some died way too young (E. Lynn Harris) and others after a long, full life (Walter Cronkite). I don't think I ever saw Cronkite more than once or twice on TV. I grew up in an NBC-loving family for local and national news, and for us, the national news was the Huntley-Brinkley Report. I don't usually comment on the deaths of famous folk, unless it's someone I truly enjoyed and would miss, but I did want to acknowledge the loss of so many people who contributed greatly to our lives and enjoyment.

Off to Duckfest (for Rubber Duck fans) in a bit. Will blog about that later!

Got This One on Facebook

You can usually tell when I'm hard up for titles! :)

If you've been tagged or you are reading this, you have the honor of copying all these goofy questions, writing your own response, and tagging 25 other victims. You have to tag me so really you just need 24 more people. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you - but not in a creepy stalker kind of way.

To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your title as "Getting to know each other!", tag 25 people including me (tagging is done in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.

1. What time did you get up this morning? 7:00 am

2. How do you like your steak? I prefer it medium rare, but I eat it medium well because I worry about bacteria, now more than ever.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? Star Trek back in May.

4. What is your favorite TV show? Geez,I can never pick one, but this week, it's definitely Torchwood!

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? New York City, which is good because I do live here. Second choice is San Francisco.

6. What did you have for breakfast? Two mini muffins and water.

7. What is your favorite cuisine? Burgers, fries, pizza, chocolate. I like Chinese food, too.

8. What foods do you dislike? Asparagus, mushrooms, most seafood...

9. Favorite Place to Eat Sushi? See above. Don't eat most seafood, and especially not sushi. I hate questions that make assumptions like this. ;)

10. Favorite dressing? Whatever fits! Oh, does this mean for salads? French or Italian, or Thousand Island or often, a house dressing. But definitely not Blue Cheese.

11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? I don't drive.

12. What are your favorite clothes? I usually have a favorite pair of jeans, nice and comfy, well broken in, but not torn. Also, one of my leather jackets, though my beloved brown bomber jacket finally gave up the ghost after 20 years.

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? I've been to Hawaii, so probably Alaska.

14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? Depends on what's in it. heh.

15. Where would you want to retire? I don't know why it's assumed people retire to places. I want to retire so I don't have to work here, anymore. I want to enjoy my city. I'd like to spend more time traveling, but NYC is my hometown and I love it here.

16. Favorite time of day? Anytime I'm doing something I enjoy.

17. Where were you born? East New York (that's the neighborhood), Brooklyn, NYC

18. What is your favorite sport to watch? Baseball, and hockey, but with the Islanders sucking right now, it's too painful to watch. Wait, the Mets are sucking right now, too. ;)

19. Who do you think will not tag you back? No one because I'm not tagging anyone.

20. Person you expect to tag you back first? See answer above.

21. Who are you most curious about their responses to this? Again, see answer to #19.

22. Bird watcher? Only to keep an eye out for those city bombers, uh, pigeons, known to drop their loads anywhere they feel like. ;)

23. Are you a morning person or a night person? Definitely a night person. Don't expect higher brain functioning from me before 10 am and best is after 5 pm.

24. Do you have any pets? No.

25. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share? No.

26. What did you want to be when you were little? I went through a slew of ideas: policewoman (I was a big tv cop show fan in the '60s and still am), teacher, artist are the ones I most remember considering.

27. What is your best childhood memory? No one stands out, just all the family trips we took. They each have their "stories" that made them memorable.

28. Are you a cat or dog person? I like them both equally, but if I had to choose, I'd probably get a cat because I consider them lower maintenance. Though I do adore beagles and yellow labs and border collies.

29. Are you married? Yes. It'll be 24 years next month.

30. Always wear your seat belt? Yes. It is the law.

31. Been in a car accident? No, but there were some close calls over the years.

32. Any pet peeves? Rude people, people who yak on cell phones and don't watch where they're going.

33. Favorite Pizza Toppings? Bacon is nice, or hamburger meat, but I prefer plain cheese. hmmm.... well, broccoli is great on pizza.

34. Favorite Flower? Ones with little or no smell! Actually, I'm a big tulip fan.

35. Favorite ice cream? Uh, chocolate. Does anyone have to ask? ;) Vanilla is okay, and so is chocolate chip and chocolate chocolate chip.

36. Favorite fast food restaurant? I do love those cinnamon melts at McDonald's. And I like Pizza Hut.

37. How many times did you fail your driver's test? Just the one time I took it.

38. From whom did you get your last email? Hmmm... that would be the possible spam from Paypal that I sent to spoof@paypal to double check. Before that one, there was a subway alert, and before that, Len Berman's Top Five, and before that, an answer from my BFF.

39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? I do not max out cards, but buying more lenses for my new camera at B&H would be nice. More shoes from Zappos.com would also be nice. And Amazon.com for dvds and books for my new Kindle.

40. Do anything spontaneous lately? Who has time for spontaneity? Hmmm... what I eat for lunch soon might be spontaneous because I can't decide what to have and I need to go out soon for it.

41. Like your job? Yes. It's the bureaucracy I'm not fond of.

42. Broccoli? Yes. Haven't had it since I got sick. I need to start working veggies back into my diet.

43. What was your favorite vacation? Hawaii and all the family trips we took (driving up and down the east coast).

44. Last person you went out to dinner with? That would be with my friends while on vacation in May.

45. What are you listening to right now? My Pandora station.

46. What is your favorite color? Blue, black.

47. How many tattoos do you have? None.

48. How many are you tagging for this quiz? There's that tagging thing again. No one. If folks want to do it, they can.

49. What time did you finish this quiz? It's 7/23/09, 3:12 pm on my PC. Oops, make that 3:13, and definitely my lunch/dinner break. Is that Lunner?

50. Coffee Drinker? Never touch the stuff. Never have, never will.

Feeling: okay

A Night with Sir Paul

Fireworks for Live and Let Die

Back to Citi Field after work last night for the second Paul McCartney concert. It was a beautiful night and the concert was great. No rain, Paul was in fine form and generally seemed to be enjoying himself (amazingly, he didn't drink any water at all during the nearly 2 1/2 hours!), and the place was really rocking. A friend and hubby's niece joined us, which was also nice. This picture is of the fireworks that went off during "Live and Let Die." The opening act, The Script (from Dublin, Ireland) were again good, although we were sitting up in the stands this time, and the music was louder there as the speakers were right over our heads. Paul's band was comprised of a couple of excellent guitarists and an enthusiastic drummer, and they did songs that spanned Paul's career, including a tribute each to John and George. All in all, a great night.

Sir Paul in Concert

IMG_0775

Last night, hubby and I went to see Paul McCartney in concert in Citi Field, and they weren't kidding about "rain or shine." It was fairly nice if humid during the opening act, an Irish band called Script, and for the first hour of McCartney's performance. Then the rain started and I discovered the saturation level of my lightweight rain jacket. So we left early, and missed Billy Joel's surprise appearance. Billy Joel had done the last concert at Shea Stadium, and McCartney had been a surprise guest for that, which is fitting since, with the Beatles, he'd been part of the first concert at Shea.

The security staff was fairly strict about the no cameras rule. I had my cell phone with me and it has a camera, but isn't all that good for night shots at a bit of a distance, so those shots are rather sucky. McCartney was wonderful, even if his voice isn't what it used to be, which given his age, is understandable. He did sound good, though, and honored both John Lennon and George Harrision with his music.

We'll be back there again tonight, in one of the upper decks, with a sucky angle, but at least, it's not supposed to rain!

Online Addictions

I'm addicted to Pet Society on Facebook. I admit it. I play that damned game every night and when it's not working, I go through withdrawal. It's sad, really. I'm a grown woman, addicted to a silly little animated online game. It's been mostly down the last few days and I seem to have forgotten how I used to spend my time before the game came into my life. Now that's really sad.

So, I was reminded by this how once I spent too many hours reading blogs and writing blog entries. Or the nights I spent making user pics with Photoshop for my LiveJournal. Or cruising flickr, especially reloading Explore/Interestingness over and over and over for hours on end.

And because I need a post over on The View from Here, I'm reposting part of this.

Meanwhile, the National League blew the All-Star Game, again. That was frustrating and annoying. The pre-game ceremony was very nice, though, honoring real people "All-Stars" and the first pitch thrown by Pres. Obama.

Chocolate Egg Cream

IMG_6062
A friend and I went to Goodburger for lunch. They make my favorite burgers. I had a bacon cheeseburger, first in 8 months! We shared fries and I had a chocolate egg cream and I can now say that Goodburger makes good egg creams (chocolate sauce, a dash of milk, and seltzer).

Week Without End

I spent a lot of today thinking it was Wednesday. Was disappointed to realize I was wrong, and more disappointed to realize there was one more workday to go than I'd thought. Because it's been a long two days at the library and it looks like the rest of the week will be as interminable. I wish I could go to bed and not wake up til Saturday.

So, I've been relieving stress tonight by playing Pet Society on Facebook and watching the very entertaining new SciFi (now SyFy) series Warehouse 13. It's like X Files without the angst and it's not taking itself too seriously. And it has Saul Rubinek who is always a delight to watch.

Friday Fun Day

It's been a long while since I blogged about chocolate and even longer since I posted links, so since I have the day off and some actual free time, here's a post about both!

These chocolate sculptures are almost too yummy looking to eat! I always knew chocolate was an art form! Link found on The Presurfer, where I also found a link to these Larger than Life objects.

A friend sent me this link for these chocolate-scented stamps released in France.

I love the Statue of Liberty and have 4 photo albums full of post cards of Lady Liberty, some straight forward photos and others surreal spoofs utilizing the statue, so I was glad to see Boing Boing link to a Photoshopping contest for the Statue of Liberty over on Worth1000.com. Some amazing pics were submitted.

Meanwhile, Neatorama alerts us to this contest for the Ugliest Design award. And yeah, most of them are amazingly ugly, to me, anyway!

I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 and got a nifty extension called Googlepedia. It adds a Wikipedia article to the side of your Google search results. Very cool, very useful.

Feeling: pretty darned good, actually, despite doctors from my hospital visit 8 months ago (!) deciding they want to bill me for services I don't recall receiving. I'm sure the cleaning staff will be billing me soon. ;)

For my US readers: Happy Independence Day! And to you Canadians, Happy Canada Day, belatedly.

New Shoes

New Shoes

Clarks High Surf from the Artisan Collection. Arrived yesterday. Very comfy in test situation. Clarks is one of the few brands I buy online without needing to try the shoes on first, although I often go to the Clarks store here in NYC to try on various new styles. I love shopping online because it saves me the hassle of carrying things home, but I do love shopping in brick and mortar stores, trying on, browsing, touching the merchandise... :)

These came in other colors, but not denim blue. Other styles were in the denim blue, but I didn't like them as much as this style. Figures.

Feeling: warm
