Recording

You Are Record

Compared to most people, you are very aware and in the moment.

You pay very close attention to what's going on around you.

You see events from many perspectives, and you tend to be a detached observer.

Whenever something is going on, you're all eyes and ears!

I wasn't going to do this one, then figured, why not try it? The results aren't bad.

Unfortunately flickr wasn't an Option

You Are Facebook

You are social, outgoing, and excited to connect to your friends.

You are interested in your friends' lives, and you enjoy adding your opinion to the mix.

While you enjoy sharing online, you don't want everyone to know your business.

You value your privacy. Your life is an open book to those you know but not to strangers.

Ladies Who Lunch

BSG Finale

TV series finales are funny things. When the creative powers behind them have the time to bring viewers a true resolution, sometimes they fall short and other times, they more than deliver the goods. Sometimes, as with Angel, they didn't have sufficient time and it has taken a comic book follow-up to resolve the series ending cliffhanger. And while Buffy, the Vampire Slayer also has a comic, the show ended with a resolution of sorts, not a cliffhanger.

Stargate SG-1 needed a follow-up TV movie to resolve the problem of the current "big bad" once and for all, while Stargate Atlantis wrapped things up nicely with a startling return to Earth.

Battlestar Galactica had an endpoint, even if the journey wasn't fully plotted out, so the pressure was on for them to deliver an ending that would satisfy loyal viewers while staying true to the mission and themes of the show. And in my opinion, they succeeded beyond my wildest imagination, and managed to surprise me with the ending. I kept thinking something dreadful was going to happen to ruin it all (the "whole thing was a dream" kind of thing), but true to the nature of science fiction at its best, they didn't push a conclusion on us but rather, gave us all the info we need to draw our own conclusions. The trust shown for us, in our intelligence, was much appreciated.

This was not a storybook ending, nor was it dark and ugly. It had more religious overtones than I would prefer, but that's okay, because it was also about life, in all its messiest best and worst. Characters redeemed themselves while others condemned themselves with their actions. Humanity comes in many forms with many views and personalities and morals, and the very nature of what it means to be human was put under the microscope of that show for 4 years, along with abuses and corruption that humans often bring to their political systems. At its best, science fiction makes points about the world we know by mirroring it with something else, be it from the future or an alien society or an alternate reality. I won't spoil the BSG finale by telling you which that mirror used to reflect back on us.

I wasn't planning on buying the series, mostly because it was so dark, I doubted I'd want to watch it again. But now I do want to buy it and watch it again, knowing what I now know about the characters, their choices, and where they ended up.

Feeling: satisfied

Not What I Was Hoping For

I suppose I could redo this with new answers, but what the heck? I'm lazy, this is done, and I need something to post.

You Are Rain Boots

You are a very playful and fun loving person. Nothing can slow you down.

You are dreamy, and you can find the romance in anything. The littlest things make you smile.

You are outgoing and friendly. You always find yourself talking to strangers.

You are optimistic about the world. Even when it's raining out, the sun is shining in your heart.

At least, they could've been blue.

Sort of a Questionnaire

Found this on Cat's Sweet Memes.

Accent: I'm a New Yawker. More specifically, Brooklyn/Queens accent.

Breakfast or no breakfast: I usually have cereal or a muffin.

Chore I don’t care for: Cleaning bathrooms, washing floors, washing windows. Actually, I dislike most household chores.

Dog or Cat: Either, but if I had to choose, probably a dog.

Essential Electronics: Computer.

Favorite Perfume: None. I have no clue what perfumes smell like these days, let alone their names.

Gold or Silver: Silver, though there are some gold pieces of jewelry I like.

Handbag I carry most often: I have a blue canvas shoulder bag. When I stop working, I'll get a nice leather shoulder bag. I used to use leather, but they get so beat up when I'm working.

Insomnia: I have a hard time falling asleep and a hard time waking up. I wouldn't call that insomnia.

Job Title: Supervising Librarian.

Kids: Don't have any.

Most Admirable Trait: Mine? I'd say honesty.

Naughtiest Childhood Behavior: Not cleaning my room, fighting with my sister.

Overnight hospital stays: Eye surgery.

Phobias: Not sure I'd call it a phobia, but I really hate bugs.

Quote: So many to choose from. "Life is not all thorns and singing vultures." (Morticia Addams) and "Chocolate is cheaper than therapy and you don't need an appointment." (unknown) are two of my favorites.

Reason to smile: Payday.

Time I wake up: 7 am on workdays. Whenever I drag myself out of bed on non-workdays.

Unusual Talent or Skill: Nothing that is unusual. I craft. I take pictures. I have good organizational skills. I write.

Worst Habit: Interrupting.

X-rays: Yeah. Teeth, annual chest x-ray, annual mammograms. My shoulder was x-rayed after I fell in July. I've had a CT scan and an MRI, too.

Chocolicious Advertising

I couldn't resist taking a picture of these subway ads. There were others, for other "candy bars," but these two were the ones worthy of inclusion here at Cyber Chocolate.
Went to my gastroenterologist today and he's encouraged that I'm beating down this persistent bacteria of mine. I need to do another series of tests to check, but we're both encouraged, so that's good. He told me to resume normal eating so we can see how I do. So, a slice of pizza will be in my near future!

Seminar Day

Spent the workday in a small room with computers, attending a seminar on the new library circulation system that will go live in June. The canned tutorials were deadly dull, but fortunately, there was hands-on with a couple of instructors to perk us up.

I watched the first episode of Castle tonight, taped last night while I was watching Medium. It's pretty cute, and any show with Nathan Fillion would have to really suck for me to not enjoy watching him in it. This one has potential.

Still sorta cautiously optimistic on the health front. Doctor's appointment tomorrow.

And that's all I got tonight.

A Good Day

I'm not healthy yet, but I sure had a nice week. The hamburger and handful of fries from Friday and the slice of cheese from Saturday resulted in no harmful effects on my ailing gut, so that was nice.

Went to the matinee of Paul Taylor Dance Theater. They did 3 dances, one of which was a premiere, called Changes, set to songs sung by The Mamas and Papas. I really enjoyed it. The company has a couple of new faces and a couple who were new last year, but they've all gelled wonderfully, dancing like a fully experienced company. I also had a lovely conversation with a woman by herself sitting next to me. It was a nice, warm day of 60 degrees F. and the light rain couldn't ruin the day.

Meanwhile, I've become addicted to games on Facebook. There are the word games like Scramble (like Boggle) and Scrabble, but also Pet Society (an obsession for me), Dragon Wars (which I can't quite get into), and a Pirate Game (similar set up to Dragon Wars, but I'm having more luck with it). I've even chatted with someone I knew in high school, which has been really nice.

Feeling: Pretty good

Tale of a Burger

IMG_2104

Today, I had a hamburger for lunch. Now, that might not seem like a big deal, but it was the first meat, other than turkey and chicken, that I've eaten since before I got sick in November. And it was good. It was better than good. It was yummylicious!

It's amazing the simple things that can make us happy.

Feeling: hopeful I might actually get well

Too Weird to Not Do

You Are YIELD

When you're confronted with a problem, you slow down and assess exactly what is going on.

You don't want to act too quickly, but you will act when you know the coast is clear.

You believe that going too fast and going too slow can be equally damaging.

You aim to end up somewhere in the middle between recklessness and stagnation.
