Here's a reason to visit Campbell, California (looks like it's up north, near San Jose, if you like donuts, and really, who doesn't? Psycho Donuts. I hope they franchise to NYC.

I always feel Americans miss out by having doughnuts with a hole in the middle. They are available in Great Britain but are not nearly as popular as the solid doughnuts with a raspberry jam filling. In Prague they are similar to our British doughnuts but have apricot jam in them. German ones usually have a jam fillinnng and are known as berlin ballons or berliners. Many Germans had a hearty laugh when JFK said Ich bin ein Berliner.

ReplyDeleteWe have the donuts without holes, and jelly inside, too. I just prefer the ones with the holes and just icing on the outside.
