It's still summer, so here's a summer meme. It would probably help if I'd heard of this car before. (I am so not a car person.) If I had to choose a car, I'd pick those new VWs. They're so cute, and colorful.
Your Summer Ride is a Mini Cooper |
You are all about unique, one of a kind adventures. The only thing predictable about your summer is that it's unpredictable! |
Love chocolate, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you. And I love your icon. What a hoot.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelly
ReplyDeleteA Mini Cooper S was first produced way backin the 1960s. BMC had built a revolutionary designed small car, the mini. It had front wheel drive and the engine was turned around so it was mounted sideways under the bonnet and it had a special suspension system using rubber on each wheel. Since then virtually every manufacturer of small cars has used this layout.
The road holding was so amazing that many customers demanded a faster version. In Grand Prix racing at that time Coopers were unbeatable. They had revolutionised grand prix racing by fitting the engine at the back. Since then all GarndPrix cars have adopted that layout. I know Auto Union did this back beofore the war but it was not really successful then.
Anyway BMC contracted Coopers to produce a hot mini. The mini Cooper was an incredible success. It won the Monte Carlo Rally several times. It was probably the first mass produced small car that could exceed 100 mph. In Britain it is still produced and is now a design classic.
I bet all of that was really boring to you! Sorry I am a motorcycle nut rather than a car nut but I still love mini coopers. They starred in at least one feature film. 'The Italian Job.' Well worth seeing just to see how those cars can perform.

Hi, John,
ReplyDeleteNot boring, just a bit over my head. But it was interesting to get a bit of history on my "summer car type." Thanks. :)
