Spooning

I guess I haven't had small, packaged Haagen Dazs ice cream in a while. I bought one for dessert after lunch today and the guy at the deli counter didn't give me a spoon and I didn't bother asking for one because I keep a couple of plastic spoons in my desk at work. So, imagine my surprise and happiness when I opened the container and found this cute little plastic spoon attached to the underside of the cover.

It sure beat sucking on those old wood spoons that came with Dixie Cups. :)

Gimme the Chocolate

Before we get to the chocolate, I have to share this link. Office Supplies Art, found on The Presurfer. Very cool.

As for the chocolate, I participate in a photo meme type group on flickr where we post macro pics based on weekly themes. This coming week is "floating." So, being the chocoholic ice cream lover that I am, my first thought was chocolate ice cream floating in root beer. Here's one of the pics.

It was very yummy. I usually make malteds, so an ice cream float is always a treat. I had vanilla ice cream and orange sherbet in root beer while on vacation. This is the first with chocolate ice cream probably since last summer.

Avatar This!

You can make an avatar a la Scott Pilgrim, on the Scott Pilgrim Avatar Creator which is part of the publicity for the upcoming movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Here's what I came up with.
Other avatar creators: Meez, MyPictr (which seems to be a quick cropping site for your own photo), Gizmoz, My Avatar Editor (in the style of Nintendo's Mii characters), Simpsons Avatar (and a game, apparently), Zwinky, DoppelMe, and WeeWorld. I found these and more on an old Mashable post. At least one link I tried was dead.

I've used Meez, DoppelMe, and WeeWorld and they're cute. Meez is nice and I have one of my Meez avatars on my photoblog, Creative Endeavors.

Other goodies include this South Park avatar creator, South Park Studio, abi-station, eLouai Dollmakers, Hero Machine (I've used this for Shelly's Comic Book Shelf), Girls Inc., and Reasonably Clever (home of the Blockhead avatars, check out the Mini-Mizers dropdown menu on the top nav).

Font Fun

I've been neglecting this blog. My others, too, but mostly this one since it was the one I updated daily. Between work stress and Facebook game addiction, I've been neglecting a lot of things. But I am still reading blogs and found this gem on one of them: Handmade Font. It's a font lover's wet dream for sure. Major coolness. Found on Photojojo.

So far, this is shaping up as the work week from hell, so it looks like more stress relief after work with MyTown and Farmville et al.

A PSA

Steve and Stan Want to Remind Everyone to Recycle
Stormies Steve and Stan want folks to remember to recycle.

Jury duty is over and I'm back at work. Talk about trading one stressful time for another.

Feeling: relieved yet stressed. ;)

Civic Duty

So I've got this jury duty thing going on. It was a call-in standby situation that turned into a report to the jury room on Thursday and has morphed into report to court on Monday to be considered for a violent crime case. Oh joy. If things continue on this path, I'll be on that jury. Not good timing for work, but then, it's never good timing for work. I don't suppose they'd be willing to dismiss me and wait for me to retire when I can serve anytime they want.

Feeling: stressed

Happy Together

Went with hubby to see the 25th Anniversary Happy Together tour with the Buckinghams, Mark Lindsay (lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders), Rob Grill (of the Grass Roots), Mickey Dolenz (my favorite Monkee), and The Turtles. Each act got a half hour and the band played for all of them.

The Buckinghams, mainly Carl Giammarese and Nick Fortuna, always put on a solid show and tonight was no exception. Both were in fine voice.

It was great seeing Mark Lindsay, especially since he's not someone I've seen in concert much, just once and not in a separate set. Paul Revere and the Raiders had some great songs and Lindsay can still do justice to "Kicks" and "Indian Reservation," among others.

As for Rob Grill, I'll be charitable and assume he was a bit more out of it than the other times we've seen him because of pain meds or something. Apparently, he's having back trouble and I know he'd previously had hip replacements done. His singing was okay, but he was mostly perched on a stool and there were times I feared he'd fall off. He did stumble a bit getting on stage, with assistance and a cane, and getting settled. Still, I do love those Grass Roots songs.

Mickey Dolenz is an energetic performer, still, and gave a solid 30 minutes of songs and fun. He's got style, that's for sure.

The Turtles filled their slot with their usual energy and humor. They're the funniest musical act I've seen. And it was great to see that Mark Volman, who'd been looking positively porky, has slimmed down. He looked great. Howard Kaylan looked good, too, though he's starting to look like he'd make a great Tevye from "Fiddler on the Roof."

June2010 087I did learn something tonight. One of my favorite Monkees songs, written by Boyce and Hart, was first recorded by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Though I did enjoy the Raiders, I never got their albums, and the song apparently, was an album cut, not one of their hits. The Monkees had a hit with it. When Mickey started to sing it tonight, Mark Lindsay came back out to do a duet of it with him.

(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone

By Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart

I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone

You're trying to make your mark in society
Using all the tricks that you used on me.
You're reading all those high fashion magazines
The clothes you're wearin' girl are causing public scenes.

I said
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
Not your stepping stone,
Not your stepping stone.

When I first met you girl you didn't have no shoes
Now you're walking 'round like you're front page news.
You've been awful careful 'bout the friends you choose
But you won't find my name in your book of Who's Who.

I said
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
Not your stepping stone,
Not your stepping stone.

Catching Up

Home, but still on vacation. I have to start calling tomorrow evening for standby jury duty. I can't decide if I want to be called in for that or not. It would let me catch up on some reading. But for now, I'm trying to catch up on all the stuff that piled up while I was away. Today, I mostly cleaned. And skimmed newspapers.

Feeling: busy
