This was the site of Daffy's, a department store (possibly local to NYC, but I'm not sure). There are/were a number of Daffy's in Manhattan and many have been closed. The clothes there were inexpensive and I shopped there sometimes, but didn't often find things I liked.
Yesterday, at lunchtime, I took a stroll down Fifth Avenue to browse through some of the shops (Coach, Anthropologie) and saw this. I'd known there was construction going on, but no signs til now. They could have simply been cleaning out the space. But now I see we're getting an H&M!
Sure, there are plenty of them now in Manhattan and I've shopped in 3 of them. But this is within easy walking distance from work! I can pop in during my lunch hours and check out the new wares. H&M is inexpensive, stylish, and while not all the styles suit me, I usually find nice skirts with pockets and cheap little sweaters and tops that fit nicely and look nice, too.
So often, when new stores open in my work neighborhood, they're places I can't or won't shop in, either because they're too expensive or geared for 20-somethings, or both. But this, this is shopping heaven.
