Monday Suckage

Got my brain fried today because it was f'in hot out. The saving grace was that the humidity was down a bit. The city is warning about possible brownouts through tomorrow. Oh, joy. Not.

Spent 10 minutes on the phone a half hour before closing with one of the loonier members of the public who seemed to revel in her looniness. She was talking to me as if taking me into her confidence, introducing me to her delusions and denial and paranoia about libraries and the city's phone company, all because she can't seem to log into her account from home, anymore. I get points for reassuring her while pretending I thought she was completely normal.

Candy Addict linked to this yummy sounding chocolate from Green and Black's. The stuff's organic and they have dark chocolate. I want some. NOW.

The Closer continues to entertain, but no Mets game tonight.I've got Dodgers/Diamondbacks on. The air conditioner is chugging along to keep me from sweating, and it's nearly bedtime and I've gotten almost nothing done.

    Hi

I'd lost the link to your blog so it was a nice surprise to find it here on my university computer.

Now a couple of comments -

I have never heard an English librarian ever say f'in' but I think a few have thought it!

Library paranoia is growing. We know the cia are checking on who is reading what. I daren't borrow a copy of the arabian nights for fear of being labelled a Moslem fundamentalist.

I am in Prague now and have full use of the university librarty but they want me to put a deposit of 1000 Kc before they let me use the Prague city library. Oh well librarians are sound judges of character.

  2. Well, I've been using the f word and plenty of others since college, but not at work. I have to admit it's hard holding my tongue at work sometimes, but necessary. :)

It's not just libraries coming under scrutiny here due to the Patriot Act, but booksellers, too. And the NSA is monitoring phone calls.

Glad you found your way back here. :)

Well I was actually joking! You don't mean the CIA really are checking up on subscribers' reading habits?
That really is a little threatening.

  4. Maybe not the CIA, but Homeland Security has the power, under the Patriot Act, to ask for any library patron's records (it's the FBI that makes the actual "request") and the libraries are not allowed to tell anyone, so we don't really know how often this has happened.
