The internet makes the world seem a bit smaller and gives a face to the vagaries of fate. A photo posted on flickr, taken from an observation deck at the World Trade Center on September 8, 2001, brought this point home to me in a poignant way. Just three days from tragedy for the photographer.
There is nothing quite as frustrating as having a library patron argue with you over the phone that you must be wrong when you can't find the title they're asking for in your database. But at least she didn't curse at me the way the guy yesterday did during a phone call when I was having trouble making out what he was saying.
The Mets have picked a horrible time to go into a pitching and batting slump, with the playoffs mere weeks away. I'm just saying.
Beautiful day today, great for a lunchtime photo walk. Doing photographic scavenger hunts is a fun way to spend a lunch hour and get in some walking exercise.
Nice weather, however, brings all the rude people out on the street, clogging the sidewalks as they block building entrances while smoking and yammering on their cellphones. Almost feels like there's a Rude People's First Annual Convention going on in NYC.
House was quite good tonight. An interesting aspect of friendship is being explored, with Wilson thinking he can "reprogram his friend House." It's one thing to support a friend and tell them when they're being an ass. It's quite another to keep information from them for "their own good," especially, as in this case, it's info House really had the right to know as well as info he'd earned. What gives anyone, even a friend, the right to make such choices, such decisions for someone, simply out of friendship? This kind of dilemma, along with the usual moral dilemmas presented on House as well as other medical dramas covering the ethics of some treatments and what to tell or withhold from patients, puts House a cut above the rest.
