Got home and had an email from WordPress! A couple of months ago, I saw on a blog that WordPress was accepting email requests for a free online blog, so I submitted my email and figured that would be the end of it. But today, there it was, an invite to get a free WordPress blog, to expire in a week, so I quickly signed up. I have no idea what I'll use it for. The options re: look and feel are limited. They need MORE templates and their help can be a bit more helpful and findable. However, there are good commenting options, they ping
Ping-o-Matic for you, and there is a bit of a cachet to WordPress, even in this scaled down form. I did have trouble doing a link in Firefox when the dialogue box didn't come up, so I went into IE to do that.
So now I need to figure out what to do with the thing. I don't want to replace any of my others or move them over. They are all nice fits where they are. So, suggestions? I'll happily entertain any ideas you come up with. Just leave them in the comments.
Edited to add: I think I can invite folks to get accounts, if anyone's interested. I don't know if I there's a limit to the invites. Comment if you want to give it a try, with your email.
Meanwhile, I did some general ranting about a Web Design Mistakes article, over on
