I've been a bit bummed since yesterday, which is taking the thrill out of my vacation, which commenced at 2:00 p.m. today. Yesterday, a number of us on flickr who take pics of toys learned that one of us had died. It was sudden, he was young (in his 30s), and even though I knew him only via the comments we left on each other's photos, and maybe a flickr message or two, I counted him among my friends. And I learned that the death of an online friend can hurt. A cloud of sadness has settled over me and over the corner of the flickrverse where toy photographers gather.

Among the toys he took pics of were Star Wars stormtroopers, so I did this tribute pic with a few of my stormies. RIP, JT. And I hope they have lots of toys and barbecues where you are now.

Duckie Flickr Meet-Up

Spent the afternoon with two flickr friends, walking around Midtown Manhattan, taking pics of holiday decorations and checking out the wares at the holiday shops in Bryant Park.

And some of our duckies, plus Tintin, got acquainted.


A new popcorn place on Fifth Avenue was giving out samples, caramel and cheese popcorn in little cups. Pretty tasty, especially the caramel flavor.


We stopped into a deli with seating for a snack and to get warm. I had a chocolate rolled cake thingie.

A Perfect Day

Beautiful day. Got my hair cut, then walked around Manhattan, taking pictures until it was time to meet Puglet for the first time after we've been reading each other's blogs for something like 3 years. I'm pretty sure it's been almost as long as I've been blogging. Puglet Ponderings was one of the first blogs I found and started to read regularly. And she and I hit it off as if we've known each other forever. Very cool, the way the internet can bring people together.

I had pancakes, then ice cream which was more sorbet than ice cream for dessert.

I'd planned to squeeze in a visit to the gym, but the timing wasn't working out and it was too nice to not be outside walking. Days like today seem to be few and far between and I was glad I wasn't stuck at work today.

Puglet has cool tattoos. Here's one of her arms. It's nice to have an online friend simply become a friend.

flickr Meetup

One of my flickr contacts has moved to NYC, so we spent a few hours together taking pics of some of our rubber ducks in Manhattan. She's the 3rd online friend I've met in person and we had a lot of fun. She's very nice and fun to be with. And our duckies got along great. We both ended up buying more.

Here, some of my ducks enjoy a root beer float with chocolate ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
