Sunday and Me

Worked on my new dollhouse today and as you can see from the photo to the left, I had some help. I'm not sure I'll be able to electrify it, though. I got the power working and the tapewire laid out, but I can't make the junction splices. The itsy brads you need to nail in (4 at each splice) keep falling and breaking even with the brad insertion device/holder I got, and the workspace in this house is really tight. So I painted some walls and put some wallpaper panels in the upper floor's hallway.

The last time the Mets lost was when hubby and I went to see them play in Philadelphia. hmmmmm.....

Bad habits, like eating junk food or noshing all night, are easy to get into. Good habits take a lot more work. At least for me. But I looked at this long weekend as the chance to try to get the snacking under control. So far, I've done fairly well and even got to the gym today for 35 minutes on the treadmill before the heat got to me, even with the A/C and the fan on the treadmill.

Selling some stuff on eBay. Making just enough to just about break even with the fees and all. Hardly a money-making proposition.

The thrills will continue tomorrow, when I plan to clean and maybe do a quick laundry run.

The New Dollhouse

I already have most of the furniture, and if I'm home when there's sunlight, I'll put some of the furniture in and take a better photo. The width plus that high angled, pointy roof made it a tight fit to squeeze into the car, barely making it into the front seat. The seller said she'd made it for an architecture class, basing it on a Scandinavian design style.

Dolls and Dexter

Picked up the dollhouse I won in an eBay auction. Photos soon. It was interesting to meet the seller. And it was a beautiful day. I took some photos in upper Manhattan where the dollhouse was residing. And I'm glad we were able to fit it into our not very big car, in the front seat because it was too wide for anywhere else, including the trunk. Now to get it furnished. I already have most of the pieces.

Dexter continues to be excellent and creepy and full of human emotions despite the lead character's unemotional inner life. They're doing a great job showing him develop, trying to deal with being human. And the side storylines are intriguing.

Oh, You Beautiful Doll

Went to Tom Bishop's New York City International miniatures show today. Bought 4 modern dolls from Katy Sue Dolls and the one below, made by Yolanda Yvette from Fantasias. I've never seen her stuff before, but the dolls are amazing. Such expressive faces. She said she makes her own molds and this one was based on one of her daughters.

She's standing in a roombox I put together. Her hair is so soft and the boa is almost as soft. The fabric of the gown is very delicate feeling. There were a couple of others I was interested in, but this one just spoke to me. She'll be a singer in the miniature pub I'm putting together. I still need barstools, tables and chairs, food and drink, something to use as a small stage, and a microphone and stand. I hope to order the rest of the furnishings from someone at the miniatures show in Philadelphia next month.

And for folks not up on dollhouse miniatures, this lovely doll is 1/12th scale, aka one inch to one foot scale, the traditional dollhouse size (there's also half-inch and quarter-inch scale, and dollhouse furnishings for one-inch-scale dollhouses would be 1/144th inch).

I bought that dog over 20 years ago. He's hand-sculpted. The armoire behind him seems to be a manufactured piece that was handpainted by a woman. The roombox has an animal spot/palm tree/camel theme to it. I just kept finding such pieces and they look so nice together, that I made a roombox for them.
