Latest Facebook Craze

This stick figure meme is making the rounds on Facebook. There was a Share button for FB only, so I had to screencap the one I did for here -- took a couple of attempts to get one that was suitable -- then crop it to use here. It's cute, even if it's starting to get annoying due to how often I've been seeing these things lately on FB.

Be Like Shelly
The overuse of hashtags really does annoy me.

And in other news, we got snow. A LOT of snow.

Long Time, No Questionaire

It's been ages since I did one of these, mostly because I hadn't seen any. But I found this on my LiveJournal friends list page today and figured, what the heck. I stayed up really late last night and am too tired to come up with anything original on my own, so this will suffice. As usual, feel free to do it. The rules stated one word answers only: Yes or No. And as usual, I paid that no mind and embellished as I saw fit. I also took the liberty of fixing misspellings.
  • Kissed any one of your blogging friends? —  No
  • Been arrested? — No
  • Kissed someone you didn't like? — No
  • Slept in until 5 PM? — hmmmmm..... I think the latest I slept was til 4:30 pm, but I'd gone to bed at 6:30 am, but I might've slept later at least one. I don't remember.
  • Fallen asleep at work/school? — Yes, if nodding off and catching myself counts
  • Held a snake? — Ick, no.
  • Ran a red light? — No. Because I don't drive. I have walked through a red light, though.
  • Been suspended from school? — No
  • Experienced love at first sight? — No
  • Totaled your car in an accident? — No, because, as I mentioned, I don't drive.
  • Been fired from a job? — No
  • Fired somebody? — No, because it wasn't in my power. I did initiate proceedings, with my supervisor, to get someone demoted and transferred and someone else fired.
  • Sung karaoke? — No, and everyone should be grateful for that.
  • Pointed a gun at someone? — No
  • Did something you told yourself you wouldn't? — Uh.... Not that I recall.
  • Laughed until something you were drinking came out your eyes? — Ick, no. I have laughed til I cried, though.
  • Caught a snowflake on your tongue? — Yes. What kid hasn't? The snow was a lot purer when I was a kid.
  • Kissed in the rain? — No... uh, maybe once. Again, a memory issue.
  • Had a close brush with death (your own)? — No
  • Saw someone die? — No
  • Played Spin-the-Bottle? — Maybe once, at a party, a long time ago.
  • Smoked a cigar? — Ick, no. No cigarettes or anything else, either.
  • Sat on a rooftop? — No
  • Smuggled something into another country? — No
  • Been pushed into a pool with all your clothes on? — No
  • Broken a bone? — Yes, if a toe counts. Also fractured a bone once.
  • Skipped school? — No, unless being out sick counts.
  • Eaten a bug? — No
  • Sleepwalked? — Not that I know of. No one ever told me that I did, if so.
  • Walked on a moonlit beach? — No
  • Ridden a motorcycle? — No
  • Dumped someone? — No
  • Forgotten your anniversary? — No
  • Lied to avoid a ticket? — No. Again, I don't drive. I assume this refers to driving.
  • Ridden in a helicopter? — No
  • Shaved your head? — No
  • Blacked out from drinking? — No
  • Played a prank on someone? — No, well, my friends and I made phony phone calls when we were 10 or 12 or so. I guess that counts.
  • Hit a home run? — No. Haven't played a sport where that would occur.
  • Felt like killing someone? — No. Just felt like slapping 'em upside the head.
  • Cross-dressed? — No. I'm not even sure what this means. I wore ties at times, often at work, with a blouse and skirt. And I wear pants. Given I'm female, is that cross-dressing? This is a silly question, though a guy wearing a dress and stiletto heels would probably be cross-dressing, I guess.
  • Been falling-down drunk? — No
  • Made your girlfriend/boyfriend cry? — No
  • Eaten snake? — No
  • Marched/protested? — No
  • Had Mexican jumping beans for pets? — No
  • Puked on an amusement ride? — No
  • Seriously & intentionally boycotted something? — Yes
  • Been in a band? - No
  • Knitted? — No. The time my grandmother tried to teach me and I knitted a one-inch square doesn't count. Or at least, it shouldn't. ;)
  • Been on TV? — Yes, for about a second, during a news report about train delays as I was squeezing into a packed train.
  • Shot a gun? — No
  • Skinny-dipped? — No. Again, everyone should be grateful.
  • Given someone stitches? — No
  • Eaten a whole habanero pepper? — No. Not even a portion of one, either.
  • Ridden a surfboard? — No
  • Drunk straight from a liquor bottle? — No
  • Had surgery? — Yes
  • Streaked? — No
  • Been taken by ambulance to a hospital? — Yes
  • Tripped on mushrooms? — No
  • Passed out when NOT drinking? — Yes, twice, from heat exhaustion, but only for a few seconds each time.
  • Peed on a bush? — Well, yes, on the plants in our backyard when I was a little kid. It was easier than going in the house with a wet bathing suit. Those plants grew better than the unpeed on ones!
  • Donated blood? — No
  • Grabbed electric fence? - No. Why the hell would I?
  • Eaten alligator meat? - No
  • Eaten cheesecake? — Yes
  • Eaten your kids' Halloween candy? — No, because I have no kids.
  • Killed an animal when NOT hunting? — Do insects count?
  • Peed your pants in public? — No
  • Sneaked into a movie without paying? — No
  • Written graffiti? — Not in public. Just made graffiti drawings in an art pad. :)
  • Still love someone you shouldn't? — No
  • Think about the future? — The future is now. When you hit 60, it's better to concentrate on the present.
  • Been in handcuffs? — No. Well, once for fun, with trick handcuffs.
  • Believe in love? — Yes
  • Sleep on a certain side of the bed? — Yes, mostly

Moon Meme

Too intriguing not to try.

You were born during a Waxing Gibbous moon

This phase occurs right before a full moon.

- what it says about you -

You like to question things and have issues settled before going to work on a problem. You appreciate art, elegant forms, and efficient designs. You seek deeper meanings in things that you see and want your actions to make the world a better place.
What phase was the moon at on your birthday? Find out at Spacefem.com

I suppose this is accurate. I would think a lot of other things might be accurate, too, if the moon was in a different phase. Fun, though.

Fifteen Films that Stuck with Me

Figured I needed a post here, so might as well do this.

I wasn't tagged and I'm not going to tag anyone. I did the 15 books, I believe, but I don't think I've done this, at least, not in recent memory. I could probably do this over and over and not name the same exact ones each time.

The rules, abbreviated: List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes.

1. 2001 (We were 4 families going together, then dinner at Mama Leone's after. Ah, the debates we had over its meaning. I read the book because of that film, then most of the rest of Clarke's books.)

2. The House on Haunted Hill (with Vincent Price). (I probably saw this on TV as part of the Million Dollar Movie that ran in the afternoons in the '60s. Scared the crap out of me.)

3. Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (Saw it in the theater with friends when I was a kid. Also scared the crap out of me, mostly the opening sequence with a very young Bruce Dern!)

4. Psycho (Saw that when I was a kid, too. I'll never forget the moment when we got to see Mother's corpse! I could name a number of other Hitchcock movies, too.)

5. American Graffiti (Saw this for film class in college. First, and only, time I really analyzed a film. We had to choose from a list of features to write about. I chose casting and lighting.)

6. Star Wars (How could I not remember this?)

7. Raiders of the Lost Ark (When I went to the movies in the '60s, they were still showing serials. This brought them all back for me.)

8. The Producers (the original) (I can't remember when I wasn't a Mel Brooks fan.)

9. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (I saw this on stage, too, but well after the original cast had left. This is probably my favorite Zero Mostel movie.)

10. A Night at the Opera (I could name any Marx Brothers movie. Duck Soup, especially for the mirror sequence, is a close second.)

11. Battle Beyond the Stars (So awful, it stuck in my memory for all time. I like to think of it as "Giant Fallopian Tubes in Space.")

12. Laura (I lost count years ago on how many times I've seen this brilliant Otto Preminger movie. Probably the most copied plot for a crime story ever.)

13. Serenity (The sequel to the much lamented Firefly series was much loved and appreciated.)

14. Superman (The first, with Christopher Reeve)

15. Batman Begins (The best reboot of a movie franchise I can think of, and one of the best adaptations of a comic book. Iron Man is another.)

Had a real spooky nightmare last night, one that held a bizarre fascination for me. I've had a couple of recurring library dreams over the years. I'm sure everyone has a work nightmare or two. In one, people not only were eating in the library -- a no-no -- but one person was getting served a catered meal! In the other, I can't get people to leave and they keep multiplying. Well, last night, I dreamed a new version of the second dream. I'd forgotten to lock the door when I left, so when I went back with the staff member I was with to check the door, we found it unlocked, the lights on, and dozens upon dozens of people inside and they would not leave. Chilling.

A TV Meme Quiz Thingie

I found this on Sweet Memes. Before I start this, I have to say that it's really hard for me to pick favorites, of anything, especially of TV shows. And to be limited to six!? Ack. But anyway, there goes.

List 6 of your favorite television shows.
This varies from month to month, or rather half-season to half-season. And I'll assume this is for current shows, not old faves like The Man from UNCLE. And I can't include any new shows yet as I haven't seen any. Although I suspect the new Hawaii 5-0 will be a contender, once I get to watch the tape tonight. I was watching the season premiere of Castle last night. [Update: I did watch Hawaii 5-0 tonight and it was great. Definitely on my list of faves.]

At the moment:
  1. NCIS
  2. Castle
  3. The Closer
  4. Leverage
  5. Medium
  6. Warehouse 13

Shows I hate leaving out: Human Target, Caprica, Stargate: Universe, How I Met Your Mother, The Good Wife, Burn Notice, Bones, Dexter, Sanctuary, Dr. Who, and Torchwood and Primeval (both of which will be back!).

1. Who is your favorite character from #2? Castle, of course. And that's only partly because the incredible Nathan Fillion is playing him.

2. Who is your least favorite character from #4? No one. I love 'em all. Every one of those wonderful, quirky characters rocks.

3. What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include? I guess if Gibbs and his team needed to consult a psychic, Allison would be the best one to approach. Which would require a trip to Phoenix. And we know how much Tony loves road trips, though not as much to places without lots of sexy women lying around the beach in a bikini.

4. Who is your favorite [relation]ship from #6? There really aren't many, but Micah and Pete are really good partners. And the curmudgeonly uncle/wacky niece relationship between Artie and Claudia is fun.

5. If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be? I think Provenza and Mrs. Fredericks would be a hoot together. Provenza would definitely meet his match, or his better.

6. If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do? Character or actor? If character, Eliot, cuz he's so sexy. Actor, Christian Kane who plays him because he's hot, and I'd have him sing to me.

7. If you could change one thing about #2's plotline, what would you change? Nothing. The joy of my favorite shows is that I enjoy them for what they are and how they can surprise me without pissing me off. Much. ;) So far, Castle has been on target.

8. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them: Well, it's mostly got family relationships. Aside from Allison and her husband, Joe, there's all the sibling rivalries going on among the 3 daughters. But Allison and her boss have a really nice working relationship I enjoy watching.

9. If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be? Brenda from The Closer. Gibbs from NCIS can take care of himself and would probably have to rescue me and Brenda because I can't swim.

10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4, what order would you choose? I actually don't pay attention to the order in the credits. A lot of that is negotiated by their contracts, so it's not anything that really matters to me.

11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like and what would their role be? Back when I wrote fanfic, I might've been able to come up with something interesting, but my mind doesn't work that way, so I'll say I'd write myself in as a Mary Sue who gets to save the day with her requisite bobby pin.

12. What happens in your favorite episode of show #2? Here's where I can't pick faves comes in. Plus, I really don't remember individual episodes that well. But I do have a favorite moment. The opening of the Halloween episode when Nathan Fillion as Castle dressed up as his previous character, Mal Reynolds of Firefly. Such a delicious moment.

13. If you could kill off one of the characters of #1, who would it be and how would you do it? Absolutely no one. Stop that kind of talk now. I sweat out each season of that show since they killed off Kate. At least Sasha Alexander wanted off the show due to how physical the part was (or so it was reported), and they gave her a great send-off, but still, very traumatic. But I love Ziva, her replacement, so I've forgiven all concerned.

14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose? Probably 5. The Closer has a lot of complex characters who would be harder to write, I think..

15. So, I saved the best for last. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person? Again, character or actor? Although, probably the same and there are 2, so it's a tie. Eliot/Christian Kane from Leverage and Tony/Michael Weatherly from NCIS, although there was a time, 40 years or so ago, I'd've picked David McCallum in a heartbeat (now Ducky on NCIS, but long ago he was my first true actor crush: Illya Kuryakin on The Man from UNCLE).

Truths Can be a Meme

If you want the aroma of a burger but not the calories that come with actually eating it, White Castle has just the thing: burger-scented candles.

Normally, I dislike email forwards, but these a friend sent along were fairly entertaining, enough so that I thought an annotated version would make a fun blog post. So, here goes.

~~~
UNIVERSAL TRUTHS
1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
~  Actually, I'd love to scandalize people. I'll be dead; what would I care what they think. Might be nice to shake up their opinion about me. Which means I'd better start visiting scandalous sites. ;)
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
~ This is painfully true.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I way ounger.
~ Yeah, I'll go along with this one, too.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
~ Not really. If you need to make it obvious you're being sarcastic, then you're not doing it right. Or the reader is oblivious. If you're worried, just do this: <- sarcasm.
5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
~ One of life's great mysteries, I say!
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
~ Oh yeah, it was. My cursive might have degenerated over the years, but it sure beats my printing for readability these days. And I can write faster that way.
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood. ~ And yet, not everyone can!
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
~ Some do. And it depends on whether the cause is interesting. Choked on a bowling ball is infinitely more interesting than had a heart attack.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
~ Oh yeah!
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
~ Usually for someone else to tell.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
~ Yup. Often comes at 9:01 a.m.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after BluRay? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
~ Hell. I'm not even doing Blu-Ray. Still converting VHS tapes to DVDs.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.
~ WordPerfect doesn't do that. It knows you didn't make any changes. Point goes to WordPerfect! Well, at least version X4.
14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.
~ Yeah, for me, too.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?
~ Not applicable for me.
16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
~ It's a waste for me if no one notices.
17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
~ I rarely use my cell phone. This is my 3rd or 4th and the first one I actually programmed numbers into.
18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
~ Mine has one.
19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
~ I don't know the reference. Then again, I don't shop in Kay Jewelers, either.
20. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
~ It would sure save a lot of aggravation, I suppose.
21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.
~ True for books, too. And TV shows, including cartoons. ;)
22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
~ Extra trips are so tedious! ;)
23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.
~ Not applicable; I don't drive. Don't text much, either, mostly to send pics to flickr or to Tweet.
24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
~ I cover my bases and eat for both.
25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
~ Describes a fair amount of library reference interviews. ;)
26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent an ass from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
~ Not applicable. I don't drive, as you'll recall from a previous answer.
27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
~ Hell, yeah! Except for those times you sit on something questionable on the subway. Ewwwww!
28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?
~ No. We were that dumb, too. We just didn't know it. ;)
29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
~ Not die. Just break my neck and become a quadriplegic and need a breathing tube, and that would just suck.
30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.
~ I don't drive, but as a pedestrian, I agree. Can't they all obey traffic laws? Would that be so difficult?
31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. ~ Just 3 times? I can stare at it for 5 minutes and still not comprehend what I'm seeing. I chalk it up to a senior moment. Well, maybe just a middle-aged moment.
32. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my behind everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!
~ I never could. My hand would fumble around smacking everything on the nighttable just to find the alarm. Something about being startled awake throws off my coordination. I use a clock radio now, have for decades. Much much better than an alarm.
Feeling: exhausted! This might be the last time I copy from an email. So much crap formatting moved over that wasn't showing in the html. I had to put this through Notepad 3 times, and I'm still not sure this will look okay when I post.
Fifteen Films
I did this for books, but don't think I did it for films. I got this on Facebook.
---
Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen films you've seen that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall -- they don't have to be the best films of all time. Tag 15 friends, including me because I'm interested in seeing what films my friends choose.
---
However, I have to think about it. Remembering titles, let alone the movies since I have to go back decades, takes a bit of time. Some of these are movies I've seen dozens of time. Others, just made an impression.
1. Laura. I can't begin to remember how often I've seen this. A perfect mystery, one that has been copied in both movies and on TV and probably elsewhere.
2. A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. One of the funniest, funnest films ever.
3. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. My other favorite comedy. Zero Mostel and Jack Gilford at their best. I've seen this on Broadway, too, back in the '60s.
4. Wait Until Dark. One of many "scary" movies I saw while growing up in the '60s with my friends. I don't want to lose slots here, so I'll add Psycho and Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, two other scary movies from that time that have stayed with me.
5. 2001: A Space Odyssey. A family plus outing. We were 4 families seeing this when it opened, totaling 20 adults and kids, and we had at least that many theories -- discussed over dinner at Mama Leoni's -- re: what it was about.
6. Serenity. Because it was wonderful that Joss Whedon got to bring Firefly to the big screen.
7. Young Frankenstein. Mel Brooks' best, along with The Producers (first version) and the odd but wonderful The Twelve Chairs and Blazing Saddles.
8. Some Like it Hot. Great cast, great film. Nuff said.
9. Star Wars. The first one, because it was the first one, despite being chapter 4.
10. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Because it brought back memories of watching random chapters of serials when I was a kid going to the old neighborhood theater with my friends.
11. Star Trek (2009). Because it reinvented the franchise without destroying what came before. This will stay with me for the rest of my life, I suspect.
12. To Kill a Mockingbird. The best book to movie adaptation. Ever.
13. Alien. For scaring the crap out of me. Not a movie that should have been seen at midnight, which is when a friend and I saw it. The walk home in the dark after was almost as scary.
14. Little Miss Sunshine and Best in Show. A tie for just pure quirky fun.
15. Animal House. Still the best of its kind.
There are plenty of others. And I'm not tagging anyone. Do it if you'd like and leave a comment so I'll know to go read your choices. :)
Feeling: hot
Back Home
I'm home. My graphics/site still seem to be online. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. I could've asked the webmaster when I saw him this weekend when he's pulling the plug, but somehow, I didn't want to know.
I spent lots of money at the dollhouse miniatures show, but enough of my weekend. Here's a meme I found over on Cat's meme blog.
Have you ever smoked Marlboro cigarettes? No, I've never smoked cigarettes.
Have you ever been in a Stop & Shop? Yes. We got one around here a year or so ago and it's wonderful.
Have you ever been to an A.A. meeting? No, no reason to.
Have you ever been to a professional baseball game? Yes, most recently, the Mets season ender.
Do you have an unusual name for your pet? No. But then, I don't have a pet.
Did you ever meet someone from a local news station? No.
What color do you want your car to be? Our car is black. I chose the color.
If you could change your eye color, what would you change it to? Hazel. That would make my pupils visible.
Do you have a deck on your house? No. But then, I don't have a house. The apartment does have a terrace, however.
Ever heard of the band Traffic? The band from the '60s? The one with Steve Winwood? Sure.
What would you have been named if you were born the opposite sex? A male name that starts with the same letter as my given name. I know what it would've been, but choose not to say here.
What's your grandmother on your dad's side's name? It was... well, that would be telling. If you mean my paternal grandmother, I'm named for her. She died before my parents met.
How about on your mom's side? My maternal grandmother's name uh, changed a few times. I'm not sure of her name in Ukraine, but she used both Doris and Dora after coming to the US.
Do you know what a gopher looks like? Only from pictures.
What's your sibling's middle name? I won't give my own middle name online, so I'm not revealing my sibling's.
Are you passive aggressive? Not really, but I know how if need be.
Does anyone in your family have a mental illness? There are some cases in the extended family.
Does anyone in your family have a disease? Well, everyone who died from something had a disease at one point, except an uncle who died from a car accident. I have a physical condition. Does that count?
Is blueberry your favorite scent? Not by a longshot. My favorite scent is chocolate, followed by vanilla and banana.
Are you jealous of your siblings? No. No reason to be.
Besides your house, where did you sleep last? My friend's apartment. I just got home this afternoon.
Do you know anyone who lives in another country? I have friends in other countries.
Do you know what a crypt keeper is? Lemme think... someone who keeps crypts? Or rather, watches them, I would think. (What an odd question.)
What's the theme song to your favorite t.v. show? The Man from UNCLE theme.
When was your last camping trip? In camp, probably uh, 1969.
Did you ever have light up shoes? No. I don't recall them having them when I was at an age where that would've been cool.
Are you wearing anything that was made in China? Haven't checked lately. I know I have some clothes made in South America and Eastern Europe.
Do your socks match right now? I'm not wearing any now. I have my slippers on.
I've Been Tagged
Annie tagged me for this meme.
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules.
3. Tell six unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag six bloggers by linking.
5. Leave a comment for each blogger.
Well, I've done the list 5 or 7 or whatever interesting things about you. Not sure what unspectacular would be. And for me, unspectacular and quirks seem mutually exclusive.
So, let's see.
1. I'm obsessive compulsive about locking my front door when I leave.
2. I hate going to bed and I hate getting up in the morning.
3. Uh, I like doing laundry. It's reading time.
And that's all I can think of. And I started working on this nearly 10 hours ago and have thought about it on and off during the day, and basically, I've got nothing. Zip. Zilch. Bupkiss.
Anyone who has read this blog for a while knows I'm not big on tagging, so if you want to do this, knock yourself out, and if you want to link back to me, cool.
Went to the Mets game this afternoon. Beautiful day for baseball. But the Astros won, damn it. And there were two drunk idiots behind us, one of whom was loud and obnoxious, too. At least, I hope he was drunk (he was throwing back the beers at a healthy clip), cuz I'd hate to think he's that annoying sober. It was Jewish Heritage day, the Mets names were in Hebrew on the scoreboard, and a recording of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in Yiddish was played. It was also a promotion day; they gave out free tee-shirts honoring the last year of Shea Stadium.
Book Meme
I've been tagged by Andi.
The Rules:
Here are the instructions:
Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. (No cheating!)
Find Page 123.
Find the first 5 sentences.
Post the next 3 sentences.
Tag 5 people.
I've done this a while ago, maybe 2 years ago, and it isn't any easier, now. In fact, it's harder because I moved most books away from my computer to make room for the looseleafs of notes for my novel-in-progress.
So, I'm left with, uh, a dictionary and The Synonym Finder as the closest books of 123 or more pages, and they don't have sentences. There are also computer software manuals here, and the nearest one has 400 plus pages, including index, and is for Photoshop CS2. Let's see how we do with it. Of course, the only books I ever have had near the computer have been reference books, but I used to have some that were a bit more meaty at hand.
Some of these special features also help produce images of higher quality than those produced using standard layers alone.
A test layer is simply a layer that contains text.
These are marvelous little inventions, because they keep the text in an editable vector format.
Fun reading, huh? ;)
I'm not much for tagging people, so if you're inclined, have at it. :)
7 Things Meme
I'm sure I've done this or something similar, way back when, but Lady Banana tagged me, so...
  1. I can't swim.
  2. I wear glasses.
  3. I have a younger sister.
  4. I've been collecting comic books since I was 7 and that was a lot of years ago.
  5. I don't drive.
  6. My college major was psychology.
  7. I'm married.
The Meme Rules:
  • Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. (Okay, linked and posted.)
  • Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself. (See above.)
  • Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. (Yeah, right. Want to do this? Go tag yourself. heh)
  • Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. (See rule above.)
I'm Really Not this Single-Minded
See my brainscanner results
For some reason, I couldn't get code for the whole thing and had to save the graphic to upload. That doesn't seem to be how everyone else I've seen with this did it.
Images Meme
I was tagged by Lady Banana to do this:
Here's the rules:
1 Go to Google
1 Click on Google Images
3 Type in your name and search
4 Post (with a link) of the oddest, craziest coolest, oldest, etc. person that shares your name. Post multiples if you find a few that you like.
5 Pass it on to at least 5 other people.
Since I don't do anything online like that using my full name, I used Shelly, and lots of nice looking people came up, along with some pics of text. Go figure. Since I don't have the copyright permission to post any of them here and anyone can go google Shelly if they want, you'll have to take my word for it. heh.
As for tagging, if you want, go do it.
They still haven't turned the water on which they'd turned off an hour earlier than they said they would to do repairs on the tanks. I'm hot, sweaty, and peeved.
Oh, and the Mets are determined to give away tonight's game to the lowly Pirates. feh.
Catherine Tagged Me
And since I actually know Catherine offline, I'd better do the meme. Even if I did this one a while ago, though I don't recall if it was 8 facts or 5 that time.
Anyway, it's a post topic and I need those, so here goes.
Rules:
1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
1. Done.
2. The facts: See below. I might've used some of these before. Some might even be in my 100 Things About Me.
3. Sounds like #2. And the rules are properly posted.
4. Having no idea who's done it already because I really can't and don't keep track, do it if you haven't already and say it's my fault.
5. Moot, given my response to #4.
The facts:
  1. I can't swim.
  2. I used to bite my nails, until right before high school graduation.
  3. I love baseball and the NY Mets.
  4. I started reading and collecting comics when I was 7 and still do.
  5. When I was a kid and I lent books to friends, I made pockets and due date cards out of index cards for them.
  6. I have some rituals/obsessive behaviors, like making sure the money in my wallet is in value order and all the bills are facing the same way.
  7. I have yet to read any Harry Potter books or see any of the movies. I might after I retire, after all the hoopla has died down.
  8. I've worn glasses since I was 3.
Rating Schmating
I did this over on my comics blog, so I figured I'd try it here.
What's My Blog Rated? From Mingle2 - Online Dating
Mingle2 - Online Dating
My comics blog, Shelly's Comic Book Shelf, got a NC-17 rating, mostly because I mention Dick a lot. Dick Grayson, who was Robin and now is Nightwing. I'm surprised by the G here, though, since I have mentioned breasts here, mainly my mammograms and fibroadenoma experiences. Maybe it doesn't go back very far in the archives. hmmm....
Oh fuck it. I don't really care. ;)
Meme Tag
Chelly tagged me. This meme is similar to the 5 random things meme I did a while back and would link to but it was before categories, I think, and I haven't tagged old posts here. I might after I update the template, which would cause feed readers to explode. And some of these might be in my 100 Things About Me. Anyway, here goes.
I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
  1. I can't swim.
  2. I've worn glasses since I was 3.
  3. I took a class in Fortran in college.
  4. I don't drive and don't have a license, either.
  5. I was born in NYC.
  6. I'm named for my father's mother who died at the end of World War II.
  7. My college major was psychology and my minor was Philosophy.
  8. My favorite foods are chocolate, cheese, ice cream, hamburgers, potatoes, and broccoli.
Now for the tagging. Eight of you (or more or less) go do this if you haven't already and leave a comment that you have so I can go read your facts.
